Setup: Dayton IMM-06 with makeshift vinyl tube coupler, "FFT Plot" app on iOS

With this portable measuring rig, I was able to run around the country to take measurements off demo units. Will be updating this post and the imgur album as I get more and more opportunities to do so in the near future. Due to the nature of this setup, I will only be measuring IEMs.

Disclaimer: my measurements are not meant to be totally accurate or conformed to any standard. Do look at my Etymotic measurements as a frame of reference instead.

Every unit will undergo a right channel preliminary check at a 5-second averaged curve. The IEM tip will be forced into the tubing with as much of the bores exposed as possible, with the distance from mic to tip set at 12mm for standard inserts, 14mm for shallow inserts and 10mm for deep inserts.
Left channel will then be checked. If the two curves are 90% similar (by observation), proper measurement will commence on the right channel.

Measurements are done on the "FFT Plot" app with the following settings:

    1. Periodic White Noise file (.mp3)
    2. 16384 data points
    3. HAMM window
    4. 60 second average under "Infinite"
    5. Mixed graph
    6. Decade scale

If inconsistencies are detected, measurements will be repeated on either the left or right channel (depending on situation I.E. channel imbalance), until a curve can be properly reproduced.

@La Cenric This is so awesome! The only other real IEM measurement resource is InnerFidelity but their missing quite a few manufactures I was curious about. Nice seeing the 64 Audio IEMs. Thanks!

It's also interesting seeing the Empire Ears ADEL measurements. I guess I'm not surprised that the modules would affect the frequency response that much. The Spartans actually look better without the modules.

I much preferred the ADEL sound despite my bassy priorities. The Zeus doesn't exactly have the best bass amongst the summit-fi tier of IEMs so I don't mind getting another reduction, but the increase in separation and clarity were too good to miss.

I'd classify it as the difference between closed and open headphone (to a much smaller degree of course). A lot of the perceived benefits in fidelity are very similar.

The Spartans do look really good. Kind of a warm take on reference maybe?

The rhapsodio galaxy v1 measurements are mislabeled as v2 in the first post ( v2 measurements would be very welcome!)

Actually @La Cenric are you based in SG or AU? If you're in SG I'm interested to see how the MG6pro measures frequency wise. Never seen a single plot of 'em around. I have a CA Andromeda as well.

The iSine measurements seem to confirm the shitty midrange that I heard with the EQ disabled.

Been working on a compensation curve for the past day or so. I'm making progress, but still don't have anything truly solid as of now. I'm getting close, so that's rather exciting...

    Etymotic ER4PT for reference

    First attempt

    Slight tweaking

    Adjustments to the upper-treble compensations

    Failed attempt to smooth

Here's what I think may serve as the basis for all future tweaking:

And as a fun attempt, my AAW A3H custom (which lines up with the manufacturer's curve rather well now)
    [IMG][IMG]

Due to the nature of my previous measurements (screenshots, raw data was NOT saved unfortunately) I am unable to simply apply any new compensations to them. A re-measure is definitely necessary. sigh...

Do let me know if I should do anything extra, or if I should continue etc.. Feedback is most welcome.

Honestly I'd just leave it as is. I quite liked your previous results. Often it's more about learning to correlate the measurements to what we hear instead of perfect accuracy (which can never be achieved).
They were uncompensated, right? I often find myseöf looking at the uncompensated measurements for IEMs

Yes they were uncompensated, but the compensations that I'm experimenting right now aren't HTRF or Harman-style but rather to keep my measurements more in line with the more common IEC-standard curves that people like @Marvey or Tyll generates with their rig.

Currently, I guess measurements can still somewhat hold water due to sheer amount of data that I've collected which allows for a lot of reference points. I'm considering compensation more as a way to make my data easier to interpret, though if you can extrapolate the compensation with your imagination then I assume it's a non-issue.

Do you know if you're going to measure any of the Nuforce line?

I know a place with demo units, but it's very out-of-the-way so I don't have any concrete plans to go there yet.

However, they do have a lot of Hong Kong customs (Lear and Ice Labs) so if I do go there I'll make it a point to measure NuForce stuff as well.

Some of you have been waiting for this update...

    Earsonics SM3
    Earsonics SM64v2
    Earsonics S-EM6
    Campfire Andromeda
    Campfire Vega
    Campfire Dorado
    Campfire Jupiter
    Campfire Lyra II
    Campfire Nova
    Campfire Orion

    Observations:
    • Earsonics measures rather badly. SM64v2 wasn't that bad, but the S-EM6 sounded horrible and disjointed, no sugarcoating it.
    • Andromeda, with all the hype, meets expectations. No surprise there.
    • Prophile-8 is in my top 10 IEMs now. Extremely clean sounding IEM that doesn't stray into coldness, excellent bass and dripping with detail.

Did you actually audition the Soranik IEMs ? And if you did, what's your impression of them ? Thanks in advance.
