honestly if you can stretch a tiny bit and hit $150, the feldgrind is an absurd absurd grinder for that price. it's so solidly built, incredibly consistent, and it can grind so fine you can choke commercial espresso machines. not that that matters for normal use :) just saying it's a very capable grinder.

if you are truly limited to 100-max, i'd say get a Porlex because then if you ever get an aeropress they nest into each other and is super convenient for traveling or camping.

I was just typing up something to say stay away from the Porlex grinder! There's just too much play in the bushings on the ones I've used to recommend. I've only had bad experiences with them. That was in 2014, maybe they've improved since then.

I've also not been impressed the Rhinoware grinders, but cannot recall enough to say why. It's been a while.

I would certainly say save up a little and get something a bit better than the sub $100 mark.

@Vansen yeah I'm with you. My strong suggestion is to save another 50 bucks and get a feldgrind, it's an insanely good grinder for that price. Prima coffee sells them but they're out of stock at the moment. They do come around so just be patient!

Haha yeah, sorry. Saw bad reviews immediately after I posted so I removed it. Thought I was quick enough that nobody saw it, but you beat me to the draw :p

Maybe Smitty has a higher opinion of it, though, so I'm all ears.

@Vansen Thanks for the recc on Bar Nine's Tawo Mok. I made it over the weekend with my new 3-cup Bialetti Moka express and the first cup came out really nice with strong dark chocolate notes. My scale broke, so I couldn't really tell how much coffee I used. The second cup turned out more watery. This morning I brought the coffee to work and made a really amazing cup with my v60. Light and juicy ;D. Looking forward to trying the aeropress later today or tomorrow.

I also bought the Decaf Tencho Kecho. It was okay with the Moka, but it's still a decaf lol. Maybe it'll be better on the v60 or aeropress?

Anyone have general tips for Moka pots?

I know they're very popular in Europe but I'm not a big fan of Moka Pot coffee myself.

I'm glad you like the Bar Nine. I need to put in another order soon.

I've not much experience with a Moka pot, either.

The American Weigh Scales AMW-2000 is a decent choice for a new scale. It's what I use and have come to like at home. There's some scale talk in this thread a few pages back, too.

I use the AWS Blade-1KG at work and at home. The one at home was a few years old and I managed to spill some hot water over it, so the screen became illegible.

Mika pots should be used on medium heat until water stars to. lol, then you turn it down to low for best results. Don't tamp the coffee grounds unless you plan to vacate the kitchen and are willing to hide any bodies from when it blows up. I have one, but this is more of my parent's schtick, so I haven't experimented enough.

So, I've been waiting all week on Amazon to send me my Hario filters.

They finally show up today, and they're size 03 instead of size 02.

Think I can get them to work? I have a brand new bag of this just waiting to be opened: http://www.crema-coffee.com/shop2/guayabales

I could be wrong but I would imagine that the cone part at the bottom would be the same size as a 02 filter but I would guess that the 03 filters are just taller. If that's the case then there would be no problem using it with a 02 cone.

Yep, that's my theory as well. I fully intend to test it later tonight, while Amazon ships me replacements on their dime :p

    Size 03 worked just fine.

First run with the V60 tonight, and man...I've been missing out. Terribly. I've been drinking sludge.

Not sure how much of it is the Hario, though, and how much is finally getting some decent-quality coffee. Whatever it is, it works.

How long do you guys take to get through a 12 oz bag of coffee? I'm used to getting coffee pretty cheap, so I don't want any of this to go to waste. At the same time, I can't afford multiple $18 bags of coffee each week...
