This isnt a special setup for most, but its been a long time coming for me! I finally decided to make the jump while looking for a replacement DAP after mine got smashed in an accident. @shaizada made me forget about the DAP and you can see where the money went instead!

I dont yet have it setup in the right place - its just on my desk right now - because I dont yet have a dedicated phono stage (TC750 on the way) so I just used the built in phono stage on my integrated amp for now :)

Man, I am so happy right now! I still need cleaning tools, a platter weight and what not but this was the biggest step! I started with thinking I'd play just one record to pop the proverbial cherry (only one because I wanted to get rid of the 2M Red immediately and get something else) but I'm on my third one now and I'm not sure I'll be stopping soon :D

Jayeshrc - for a cheap and easy upgrade to the 2m red - look for a 2m Blue stylus. The red / blue share the same body, so for about $200 you can get a big upgrade in sound quality and not need to change the whole cart out.

Congrats on the setup, looks great

I need to get some cool color records to show off my turntable. All mine are normal black.

Yup, I'm looking at the blue, along with the AT440MLB and Nagaoka MP110 that @Marvey and @shaizada told me about.. I'm willing to get my hands a bit dirty to swap out a whole body but I need some money in hand to buy one of them so I'm waiting a few days for the Red to sell first. In the meanwhile I wanna try giving these options a shot in store if possible so I can decide for myself :) Thanks for the info though, I'm sure lots of newcomers dont realise the blue is an easy swap!

Well, like the general opinion says - normal is actually better and I think I agree. The next couple records i played were black 180g and it definitely felt nicer handling and maybe it was just me getting into the groove but I liked those better sound wise too. I played one 45rpm one as well and my head's kinda spinning with excitement haha

Call me crazy but I've found colored (especially multicolor) records sound subpar compared with their boring ol' black cousins. I have found that clear/translucent colored vinyl sounds damn good, however, and seems to withstand play-related degradation better than their opaque colored counterparts.

You're not crazy. Clear vinyl is for all intents and purposes pure vinyl, all colors including black require adding material to the vinyl to give it coloration. What I've read is that the material used for black vinyl imparts little to no added surface noise, while other colors often do impart some amount of noise, with white being the worst offender.

I have used all sorts of colored vinyl and have done back to back comparisons with black ones and I don't tend to notice a significant difference.

Color vinyl got a bad rap because it was up till recently, there was a fair amount of recycled vinyl pellets and now most respectable pressing plants are using good vinyl and adding color.

That said, I'm not sure there isn't any truth to what you have said, just I haven't had much experience with that in my comparisons.

Most of my worst sounding clean vinyl (that is, vinyl free from marks and scratches that could degrade the sound) are colored. Not all of my colored vinyl sounds bad though.

One of the big problems with colored vinyl is it's often used as a gimmick to sell more records, usually for indie bands or the like that aren't going to good pressing plants. A good example of this is Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool. The black and white vinyl from the US had similar problems, but the white vinyl from the UK sounded better. The deluxe (black) version from the UK actually sounded the very best.

I've got bad sounding black vinyl and I've got bad sounding colored vinyl. And vice versa.

I definitely agree that it's a total gimmick, though. Just like the bogus prices these band or companies think they can charge for a record. It got absurd a few years ago.

Though really, I think the bigger issue is using digital files for a medium that really should and could be analog from the start to finish.

I got the standard black U.K. vinyl for AMSP and had no noise issues thankfully. I deliberately avoided the white vinyl even before I heard that people unhappy with them.

I still have a black vinyl from the UK in the shrink as I was happy enough with the white UK vinyl, that is until the deluxe showed up. People had issues with the deluxe, but mine was silent.

Alot of that is due to the lack of pressing plants out there. I know there are two companies making new vinyl pressers, but it maybe awhile before vinyl supply comes back up, if it ever does.

Had an enjoyable evening, but only got half way through the box set (UK pressing, 200G, pretty damn impressive)...
