Redco offers custom XLR to TRS AES/EBU interconnects as well for anywhere from US$10+ to more depending on how silly you get with options.

Ok, nevermind. Can't compete with those prices since just the connectors would cost that much.

It's great to hear from you for @fraggler. It makes me think that perhaps there are some forum readers that had the very first units as samples, and would like to get the production unit. For any of those out there please feel free to contact me and I will see about getting you an upgraded unit. No charge of course.

    Cheers,
    Michael

BlueJeansCable offer 1/4 to XLR AES cables. They're great.

You can get a cable built to order from somewhere like Blue Jeans Cable who let you configure your own for $20-30ish depending on length, etc.

Good for you ...if you are from America. I'm from Romania so .. my options are limited because for a 20 USD cable from US I pay 20 more shipping and probably something at the customs + the shipping delay.
I guess this is the case for all the Eastern Europe forum members... so if someone from Europe has some sugestions of good digital cables this would be very nice :)

I'm sure Thomann would have some options for you.

Just got mine today. Haven't done any comparisons yet, but it's been working flawlessly for a few hours driving the AES/EBU input of both a Yggdrasil and DAVE. I need to figure out a better case situation though, as the Pibow case that I'm using for the RPi that I installed the HAT on isn't compatible with the included standoffs, so I really don't have any mechanical support at the moment. What I'd really like is a nice sturdy case like the steel DIGI+ HiFiBerry case.

If you want small and price ($67 shipped in the US) isn't the main concern the Moode case might work if you left off or hacked the back plate:

The front is clear plexi for wifi and I guess seeing the leds.

    http://moodeaudio.org/ for more pictures, etc.

If you don't mind bigger and/or might want to add a lpsu for a one box solution a mini itx case might be worth checking out, that's what I ended up doing.

I don't think that case would work without some modification; the RCA plugs on the side of the HAT would prevent the U-shaped cover from fitting. For the time being, I'm just going to use one of these without the top attached. I was already making an AdaFruit order and that case construction at least allows me to use spacers for mechanical support.

You might consider ghentaudio in China for your cables. They make cables for every order and I'm sure they could arrange a 1/4 to xlr at whatever length/

We had a few folks that were not able to get the discount because the stock situation was a bit messed up at the time they tried. So we have re-instated the discount just through the weekend for those folks. If you ordered without the discount send us your PayPal and we'll refund the discount amount ($17.80).

    Cheers,
    Michael

P.S. Early info a new network streaming design using the Pi Compute module in a box with audio add ons is available on our dropbox. Initial audio specs are WM8804 SPDIF Opto, Coax AND XLR, PCM1798 DAC with analog out, plus optional LME49600 based Headphone amp with ultra-low noise LDO's. The 3D pdf is located here:

    I'll post a datasheet soon!

EDIT: Left click the top of the case, then right click to get the part menu. Form there you can turn the top off and see the insides. :)

You have to open it with Adobe reader, clones won't work. Have you tried to download the link first? I tested it again and it seems to be OK. Let me know what happens. If this does not work I will post it on the web site instead.

    Cheers,
    Michael

Just have to share... to take some pics I moved this onto my headphones temporarily. This sounds so good! SPDIF, but the master clock also driving the DAC. First time trying the 502DAC this way. On my 2-channel system, awesome depth/height and completely divorced from the speakers, "plankton" galore etc -- more than ever. And this just works, the Kali/Digi setup is more finicky, the Digi+PRO does not sound as good. Thanks!

    Guys,
The 502DAC has been very well received by you guys and others! It is now in production with higher volume quantities coming soon. We are still a little bit behind on orders, but will catch up with that shortly.

I am considering creating another board with the same digital side and connectors, but with a much better DAC. I am thinking of the AK 4490EQ. But I am open to suggestions. The key feature is the DAC must be able to run in hardware mode. Unfortunately this leaves out the Saber DAC family.

Let me know what you think.

    Cheers,
    Michael

wow, this is great. Which Sabre DAC will be using? I myself couldn't like the sound from any 9018 DACs, it maybe just me.
