No gloves, no helmet, casual inputs....that's not driven hard. I race cars and I know the difference between driving hard and not....

    Speaking of Ferrari engine sound...

Nothing beats the V10 sound of the yesteryears.

Here is my new WRX. I am about 1/3rd of the way there on the engine break in and loving it so far. I can't wait to hit 1000 miles and really let it rip.

Did a quick test run of the new external mic for recording my canyon runs. The mics are taped on the airbox right next to the engine so you get to hear every click from the valves. Still working on properly mounting the camera and all but it's progress. Engine didn't get a chance to get past 4.5k rpm which is barely half the powerband.

Wife and I picked up a CX-9 Signature. Weathertech floor mats, cargo mat and car seat protectors on the way.

She's going in for dealer swirl mark removal (why is it always so bad) and sealant this week. Lined up a good tint guy; hoping there's a ceramic that has significant UV reduction and heat reduction without loss of light transmission. I need to figure out if I'm going to clear bra partial hood, full hood or wrap the whole damn thing (he's apparently a master with XPel Ultimate).

Nice. I've recently test driven this model a couple of times, good dynamics considering the size and great interior. I'm still considering it because my older daughter really liked riding in it. But I think I'd have to keep it in Sport mode all the time to get the most out of this transmission/engine combination, which would lead to much shittier fuel consumption than advertised. Of course that's due to performance expectations of my next vehicle, even if crossover/SUV, which is why I've also got my eye on the Dodge Durango R/T. Sure, FCA reliability/resale and all that so we'll see what kind of deal I can potentially strike in both cases.

    Congrats!

@zerodeefex Looking good! I went with the partial hood, headlights, mirror, and rear bumper clear 3M film. I figured that the front part of the hood is likely to take the most direct hits from kicked up rocks so I didn't bother getting the full hood done. If you don't have mud flaps, maybe consider getting the film done on the lower part of the side panels. After ripping around on country roads with lots of loose gravel last weekend I am trying to decide if I should go with mud flaps or get some protective panels.

Thanks! I actually am trying to convince my wife it's her summer car, too (we needed something for her with AWD for the snow) so I can steal the Odyssey. Being able to haul around 4x8s and kid stuff is amazing. I also want her to have the nicer car. She gave up her Audi for the Odyssey and it feels right that she takes the vehicle that's more fun since I don't care that much anymore.

Put 93 octane in the CX-9 and it makes 250 which is a far cry from putting down 360 hp but it's not too shabby. The 310lbs ft of torque at 2000 rpm seems most useful to us since this is a grocery getter/sometimes driver to go skiing. It also is a nice 1000 lbs lighter than the Durango R/T. I had my wife look at the Durango but the CX-9's agility and general feel won out.

Given it's built on the Mazda 6 platform, I suspect there are a few simple things I can do to make the CX-9 a little more fun. I figure a few suspension mods, a couple of bolt ons and an ECU tune will eek out a little more power and performance. First order of business are some 18s with snow tires, though.

Thanks! I'll just do partial hood, partial fenders, full front bumper, mirrors.

Curious, why did you do the rear bumper?

There are quite a few very nice foreign cars in this thread, so I thought I'd add something domestic. Hopefully, I'm not the only fan of American V8s.

It is to protect the rear bumper against scratches when loading stuff into the trunk. It isn't the full bumper, it just wraps around partially from the top. I wouldn't have ordered it, but the dealer put it on for free because they forgot to put the film on before I picked it up. My guess is that most SUV's already have that area protected.

    Killer Camaro!

I've had my heart set on a Mustang GT either in Ruby Red or Magnetic (close to your color), but thinking about long-term practicality in my particular situation is holding me back. Kids are still not tall enough to complain about being thrown in the back, and ever since I've developed a cervical disc issue, wife says go for any vehicle so long as I don't have to keep switching between Summer/Winter tire sets as I have up till now... so who knows. The Chevy SS might have been an interesting option, if Chevy hadn't terminated its future - it was begging for a redesign.

I've loved Pony cars since I was a kid, no replacement for the sound of American muscle. Another reason why I'm eyeing the Hemi-powered Durango, but Zero's got a point about its bulk.

I think I'll need to test drive the Camaro and Mustang a few more times just to get it out of my system...I mean, how bad could it be to drive Detroit muscle with All Season tires?

Thank you very much. I really wanted to buy one when the sixth generation Camaro was first released in 2016, but waited until that 2017 50th Anniversary Edition was available to order. One of the only good things about living in Houston is I was able to drive it on summer tires December through February without any issues, so I can't speak to driving on all-season rubber.

Regarding the Chevy SS, one of my co-workers has a G8 GXP (the generation of the re-badged Australian Holden Commodore before the SS) and it's a great car with a killer engine. He loves the Holden Commodore in general and has been strongly considering getting a SS before they're gone (and to get all the technological bells and whistles not available 10 years ago). I'd say if kids and back issues are a consideration, it would be a solid compromise between muscle and utility, regardless of it's future. It also has the same dual-mode adjustable exhaust as the Camaro, so you can get as much of that American V8 rumble as you want.

Why not the GT350? That's an amazing sounding V8. mmmm and the 8250 rpm redline.

I think wistfully of the days before I had to install the ugly ass license plate on the front. Mazda 3 2013 Sedan. Love this car, killer reliability and comfort and super fun to drive. Not too spacious though.

I was skeptical when you said your avatar was your cat. You're done now, though.

Hopefully the mods can make an exception and delete the picture from that last post (and maybe even his avatar).

In any case, here's one to get us back on track. One of our since-departed cats (not very imaginatively named Fluffy), and one of my cars (more interestingly named Calamity Jane in reference to her not-so-stellar reliability):

Went to Sequoia and King's Canyon national park over the long weekend. Had a chance to record a lot of car footage.

Here's is a bit with the car at WOT:

I believe 3rd gear takes me to 91mph. Lowest gear I was in was 2nd which takes the car to 71mph.

Looks like a beautiful place for a drive. I was glad to see you were still being respectful of the campers and other drivers. Some of those people were so close to the highway!

Do you have any plans on going to a track? I bet you could get some really cool footage.

Yeah, canyon etiquette is staying within the lines. The pedestrians make me real nervous so I do slow down and a parked car could mean park ranger. Don't want to get a speeding ticket in the park!

Tracking the car is definitely in the plans but I'd like to take some classes for track driving too. I thinking there's a ton I could learn.

First thing is going down to 18" wheels instead of the stock 19" but also 30mm wider per tire. Then change out mounts and bushings to hard rubber or aluminum to reduce deflection.
