I've had Bourbon Country Barleywine from Goose Island and I heard good things about Bigfoot from Sierra Nevada but aged. I'd imagine the latter being an easier beer to find though.

As for Belgian ales, I would add Cuvee Rene from Lindemann (lambic, sour beer) into that list along with the other styles like Saison DuPont (saison), Duchesse de Bourgogne or Rodenbach Grand Cru (Flanders red ale), La Chouffe (strong pale ale), Duvel (blonde) then you go from there. I love how much variety exists with beers though I'm a bit turned off with the unobtanium stuff now.

Anyway, for my 50 states 50 beers thing, I've decided to do a 50 stouts, sours and saisons for the simplicity of it all. If anyone is willing to ship me beers from their state (I will reimburse your costs of course), let me know!

as long as you aren't trying to find anything super rare, I can hook you up with NC and anything potentially surrounding.

Whereabouts in NC are you? I'm actually nearby and planning to go to Asheville when I have the time and I could use the company! I'd really like to go to Fonta Flora and Burial.

The night is dark and full of terrors, but this beer is smooth with a touch of honey.

    p.s. I didn't watch the premier yet...

I keep thinking about when I can go back to Belgium again to buy, trade and drink beers. When I went, I was only in Europe for 10 days in which 5 of those days were in Paris... (barely bothered looking for beer there though I was able to buy a Cantillon Iris for 17 euro). I did a lot of research prior to going and PM'd a bunch of people to trade with, which was good because I was able to get the rarer seasonal beers. I also got in contact with some people who are probably willing to do some trades too and I can pretty much help facilitate with any shipping from Belgium to the states... Anyway, I was wondering if any beer person here would be willing to ever split costs on car rentals n such if you guys are planning to go to Belgium in the next year or so. I mostly just stay in hostels and pay like 20 euro/night though I might end up visiting Lyon or whatever in my brief time there. If anything, give me a ring. I'm always down as much as my budget and time allow lol.

tip: select either the Abt 12 or Draak as first drink during an evening. a big strong beer is a nice start, and wind down from there.

I've got some Pizza Port Pickleweed Point IPA and a Second Chance Clever Hoppy Name XPA tonight.

All drank out of my favorite Tripel Karmeliet chalice.

Oh yeah, I wanted to recommend this $40 mini fridge from craigslist a while back which kind of started me on my beer collection... Unfortunately, I couldn't take it with me to Tennessee and most of those beers have been traded off but I'm hoping to rebuild it in December when I go back. The Funky Buddha's, the rest of the stuff except the IPAs are gone. Most of my cellared sours live in the closet now and I haven't had time to reorganize the fridge since I only had 2 days in between coming back from EU to moving to TN.

But yeah, I'd recommend getting one. Having separate fridge is actually quite nice, it made me feel all giddy opening it when I allow myself to have a drink.

I'm searching for the dislike button for pouring an IPA into an obviously superior glass such as the Karmeliet with it's fleur de lis design.
    pair. the. glass. properly.

Do you guys care about drinking it bottled several weeks after acquiring a bottle of something? Some stuff I think tastes bad from the bottle and some taste fine. I'd guess that for me, I wouldn't want to leave a bottle of beer for one week in the refrig ... possibly 2 weeks max before consuming.

Personally, it depends on the style, light and crisp beers, I'd drink right away along with IPA's. The rest of the stuff, I don't care much. I have quite a few beers for cellaring now and I intend to drink them in the next 3 years or so when I finish grad school.

You can cellar big beers and they can improve over time like wine. I have a bunch of stuff that's 8-10 years old now. But the vast majority of beers you want to drink right away.

    The hops harvest!

These are cascade hops, the local breweries are going to be wet hopping this into their beers so that's something to look forward to in the next month or so. This was so fun!
