We just released an update to True-Fi!

    Screen Shot 2017-08-08 at 11.05.51.png

The D curve, which seemed to be the most suckiest, has been replaced by the option to compensate for age related hearing loss and some extra bass boost. If you're already signed-up, just check you e-mail for the newest version. If not, then..

    GET IT HERE!

Just a heads up, getting the code seems to work better over non-@hotmail addresses. Myself and a couple of my friends had to use gmail to get codes for this update.

Otherwise, looking forward to comparing the new D profile :)

@Hrodulf - Can you explain the difference between Tru-Fi and Sonarworks Calibration Software?

I think the elevated sub-bass might be due to the fact that flat couplers couple better than actual head/cheeks. I'll ask my RnD guys.

At "flat" setting the sound signature will be the same. Otherwise it has different features than Systemwide.

@Serious's measurements (seen here) are on his own head. I also intentionally break the flat plate seal with a strip of felt. Also, the HD650s are dipole headphones with a lossy seal.

Actually those were on the coupler, which is more lossy than my head*. The way every headphone rolls bass off tells me there's some sub-bass boost in the curve. An LCD2 should measure flat.

*Actually now that I think of it, it depends on the headphones. With the HD600 it's pretty much the same thing in the bass region. Maybe actually slightly more bass on the coupler than on the head. I wear glasses, which also affects the results. The mods should bring the bass around 2db forward IIRC. More stuffing behind the driver sounded too dead to me.

I might try it again, but with the profile set to lower the bass.

A and B sound pretty good (modded 650). A in particular is good, but closes the music in a bit (probably because the mods adjust the frequency response already).

C sounds like my small clock radio from the early 90s.

Custom with Adjust for Age (up to 40 years old) sounds like a razor blade eviscerating a ham radio with a cheese grater.

I'd say simplify and offer three options for Custom Adjust:
    1. HeadFi'er / Jude's measurement rig gaslighting
    2. Old fart with damaged ears
    3. Generation Y
Most of the sound engineers I've met are dudes older than me. They don't need this razor blade shit.

Actually the hearing loss compensation curves are based on ISO 7029 standard. I have my reservations on why it most likely won't work, but at the same time I'm interested in how it jives with the community.

Any idea when the software will be out of beta?

Same cans. A is pretty good (about the right amount of sub-bass boost). B is too bassy. C sounds a touch shouty. D set "up to 50 yo" @100% has some upper treble boost but it's not drastic.

Not sure if you were being hyperbolic, or I'm just not that sensitive to differences in mid/high frequency response (probably both).

I was being hyperbolic, but it was intolerably extreme when I tried it. Maybe it's been tuned since.

Trying this out with my HD800 and I'm liking what I'm hearing. My favourite is the Custom with a bit of treble boost (I'm 39 and like less than "up to 30 years old" preset, btw).

It's a completely different signature than the original, but it proves HD800 can take some serious EQ while staying clean (esp with the bass boosted). Damn, this hp seems pretty great for us EQ-users, well see how my HD600 does.

I started using it with HD800S. I do not know what A is doing, B is not only too much bass but it gets muddy as well. I am alternating between C or True-fi off. C is very fast, great instrument separation. But with True-fi off sound is more natural.
So far I played mostly classical chamber music, must try with different genres.

using with my fostex th-x00 PH with dekoni fenestrated sheepskin pads on so the target measurement is not aligned properly with my cans but either ways, A and B seem to boost the mids too much/ sounds unnatural, works really well on some tracks, horrible on others. B seems to be the better out of the two for me. Soundstage is sucked out though.

Just downloaded True-Fi. Using it with my Sony MDR-1000X Bluetooth noise cancelling cans (they are the only ones I have on your list) and it certainly is taking them to the next level!

HD600 is by far the one that changes least when using True-Fi - a testament to one neutral headphone. Anyhoo, 800's cleaner & faster sound really comes through. They sound quite similar FR-wise, but 600 doesn't have near the same speed, punch, clarity or reach in the lows or detail in the highs. Not really surprising, but just goes to show what these two are made of.

That LCD-2 preset was way off with my pair, the measured pair(s) had a massive drop at 3-5k - mine don't. A very annoying listen. Maybe it works with Fazors, dunno.

EDIT: I've also tried T1 and HD598 Cs.

I didn't like the hd800 setting at all, it's like a big veil between me and the sound and I ended up using hd600 preset with my own compensation on treble and bass.

Anyone else tried their hd800 and got different results with the preset?

Has anyone tried ATH MSR7? I used the beta version with HD800S and was not convinced. MSR7 is new on the list, still waiting for T5p.2 but if it works with well with MSR7 I will probably get it.
