Setup is still not complete on this BL-91, but it won't really look much different when I'm finished. I really just need to finish leveling it and hook up a cable when it arrives ( I neglected to check whether it had a junction box or used a DIN plug when I purchased it).

    Sound-Smith Aida -> BL-91 / MA-701 tonearm -> Decware Zen Triode phone stage -> Schiit Freya -> Benchmark AHB2 -> KEF LS50 is the chain for now.

Also, the tracking force from the markings on the tonearm from setup measured within 0.05 grams on the force gauge. Pretty easy setup compared to some that I've done.

Sharp eyes folks! Yes, it is a Viva piece. Not mine. Just the turntable is mine.

I wanted to post my first junior achiever level setup of a Michell TecnoDec with RB250 special arm and Denon DL-110 purchased from @Mr.Sneis (great person to do business with, BTW). Table is on top of ERC-3 CDP until I research a better platform alternative.
It is an excellent way for me to start learning how adjustments effect the overall sound! I'm starting to get everything dialed in and already at Gungnir Multibit levels of detail, tone and instrumental separation. The current phono pre is TCC-750 stock with SolaHD PS. I'm debating upgrading, but not sure I need to until I start into the lower output MC carts.

Its funny, i only had a few records with static issues (raising hair on my arm) so I didnt think I really needed a Zerostat but I got one a week ago and I use it on all my records before i play them.. Pretty noticeable difference, the background hiss and pops have reduced significantly!

I probably won't be posting any more of this table for a bit, but I just installed a Micro MA-505 tonearm on the BL-91. I thought I'd share.

Wow, please share what headshell and cart is on there.

Also, what was the inspiration to switch tonearms?

The cartridge and headshell are both from Sound-Smith. The headshell is the only one they make as far as I know, and the cartridge is an older Aida. The new version looks like this:

As to why the tonearm swap, the MA-505 is one of the better arms they made at least that can be found easily and at a remotely affordable price point. There's a bunch of them available from Japan. The MAX-282 seems to be generally considered their best arm, but they're rare enough by now that they're rather pricey. For the specifics, the MA-505 has a little more mass to make it work well with a wider range of cartridges; the MA-701 I was using is rather light weight. The MA-505 also has on the fly VTA adjustment and ease tracking force and anti-skating adjustment. Not to mention the fact that it swaps out headshells more easily. Plus, look at it.

Got myself some new DJ decks today. :D

    IMG_4534.JPG

First impression is that any resemblance to the 1200 of old ends with the form factor. Sound wise these STOMP all the vintage models as well as any Hanpin Super OEM deck ever made. Not close. Will try a variety of carts (only had a SH-04 + M44-7 on it so far + what I heard in the shop with the entry level mofi) and phono stages and get back with a full review but the basic gist is is that in stock form it's slightly warm leaning but also very transparent with spectacular bass performance.

Edit: Speaking of transparency I was just listening to this (https://www.discogs.com/Peter-Tchai...tra-Seiji-Ozawa-Symphony-No-5/release/2342093) Seiji Ozawa/Boston Symphony recording except on Franklin Mint great conductors reissue from the 80s (really good pressing) and there is a VERY quiet low frequency rumble every revolution at the start of the first side. Freaked me out as I thought I might have a platter imbalance issue or something so I took it in and spun it on the Kronos... nope it's actually cut on the record; cutter head was probably getting external vibration from something or it's actually recorded like that. The 44-7 with it's hyped bass was exaggerating it and the 1200GR delivered it exactly as cut. Never noticed it at all when I spun this record on my Numark Pro TT-1 which is the original Hanpin Super OEM design now used in all the 1200 clones and DJ tables (Audio Technica/Stanton/Pinoneer PLX/ Reloop etc...)

I was a bedroom DJ for a while with Numark Pro TT-1's (noticed you have them also) and going to my friend's house and just loving mixing with his SL1200 MKIII's.

Also they better sound good considering how much they cost nowadays.

Congratulations!! it is a fantastic arm both mechanically and sound wise. I am using the same pump Sil-Air 15A (with smaller tank) and triple silencer tanks (diy from drain pipes) together with my MG-1 tonearm. It is the best pump available and by far the most quiet. Enjoy my friend! your system really rocks!!

Just got her in this morning, upgraded from a Rega RP3 which was a great introduction to vinyl, but wanted to get something I could really grow into.

Clearaudio Performance DC w/ Satisfy Arm > Denon 103R MC Cart > Tavish Vintage 6SL7 Phono > Onkyo A/V Receiver (I know) > Blumenstein Orcas/Dungeness Sub

Super early but sounds very clean and quiet. Looking forward to dialing in more parameters once I get some hours on the cart.

Looks like your table or stand is a bit off kilter according to the bubble level there...

    Neat looking arm.

When you're in that liking this mode, yell out, PERFORMANCE! I would.

Edit: Been meaning to mention, I'm pretty confident that the Audio Technica AT-440MLa is a better cart than the Grado Sonata 1. I put it on the old VPI and it's like, oooohhhh, okay.

Haha good eye, yes the rack is a bit off level, the floor near the walls in this place are a little weird. Platter, of course, is leveled
