Gorgeous piece! Did you assemble it, or did someone else? If I'm not mistaken, i actually think I recognize that one....

I did not assemble it. I hunted for a 30t2rg for a long while. I actually gave up on finding one. Then one fated "wrist shot Wednesday" (know where you've seen it know?) a long time vintage Omega collector posted it. Several months and a lot of pleading later (and him finding a Chronometer Royale for sale) he caved.

It's been with me ever since.

    Nice watch! Lovely pictures!

Sorry about the accidental dislike. I need to keep that mouse pointer under better control.

    Have corrected :)

Thad, I thought you had just developed a mean streak and started to dislike at random :)

Anyone who lives in the New York area should visit the Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition this weekend. It's a very cool chance to learn about watchmaking history and see some cool limited editions.

Yes, definitely see the Patek exhibition, it is super special and very rare to have something like this on this continent.

You can see artisans do high-end traditional stuff like engraving by hand live!

I'm not even sure of all the things this 80-year old pocketwatch can do.

They had some watches dating back to the 1600s, too.

They had watchmakers to explain how high-end mechanical watches work. One guy was working on a minute repeater (chimes out hours and minutes) from 1923 and was showing how it worked. Very cool!

Gentlemen and lady (Oh wait, I think we have a t least two actually!)...

All about a clock, not a watch, but I think people would enjoy this anyway. I just finished watching the 24-part series:

If there is anything similar about watch making, recommendations welcome, I'd like to take a look.

Thanks... I just watched the case-making series in one sitting :)

I can relate to work in silver and gold a tiny bit more easily than steel/etc, because I have done a bit. But nothing like this! Except, hey, I forgot my borax dish, I had one like that... and the torch. But a head/flame that big I only ever used for... lighting the living-room coal fire! :D

I did a little experiment with two of my quartz watches. I have a Casio G-Shock and a TAG Heuer Formula 1 Quartz that I synched with time.is on July 31, 2017. Neither watches have been reset since then. Today (Sept 5, 2017) I checked again to see what the drift is compared again on time.is. Here is what I found

    TAG - 8 seconds ahead

    Casio - 20 seconds ahead

Some people wonder why you would get an expensive quartz over a mechanical watch since quartz watches are cheap. However this little experiment shows that you do get better performance for more money. Whether that's worth 10x the cost ($1500 vs $120) is another issue.

I also have an automatic watch that I can incorporate as well

They had that watch on the Antiques Roadshow. It's my favorite item they appraised.

Finally got pictures of a few watches I have to post

Here is my TAG Heuer Formula 1 quartz I got as an engagement present from my wife

Next is a Casio G-Shock I use more then anything else

The LCD isn't really faded. I think it's an artifact from the way the camera captures the image. A bit like how you can take a picture of an airplane propeller or fluorescent light and the image is totally distorted. As you can see there is a section to indicate the tides and the moon phase. Currently we have a full moon so I changed mode so you can see what it looks like with a half moon. This watch came in handy in Britanny, France where the tides can go out and back 2 miles daily.

Here is the Sturhling Skeleton I bought for $80

Movement is Chinese and it I think it looks good. Let's you see all the inner workings. It says that it's water resistant to 50m but I don't plan on testing that.

Other watches I have are a timex and a Seiko automatic from my dad. The watch face on the Seiko broke and I need to get it fixed.

I'd like to get another Seiko and my dream watch is by a French watchmaker named Jean Baptiste Viot

    Nice watches @Cspirou!

A wife that gets you a nice watch as a gift is a keeper!

I see you like skeleton watches, I like seeing the movement, too.

Just my point of view but if I get a mechanical watch, I want to see how it works. At the very least it should have a transparent back. Paying for all those mechanical features and enclosing it doesn't do enough to separate it from a quartz watch to me. I sort of feel the same way with tube amps, they need to stick out the top, not be hidden in the chassis.

I do wish this thread had more LCD watches. I like crazy unique displays like binary watches or the Nixie tube watch that Steve Wozniak has.

Started the experiment today with my Sturhling watch. Unlike my other watches the second hand moves as long as there is power. So I need to wait for it to run out and then manual wind to sync. It's at -1 second right now but not too worried about accuracy since I'm sure it will be far worse then the quartz I have. The very very best mechanical watches have an accuracy of +/- 1 second per day and I'll be lucky if this accurate within 10 seconds by the end of the day.

My brother shared the Clickspring videos with me a few months back. Absolutely stunning work and presentation. This is how you do Youtube tutorials.

After one day the Sturhling is 26 seconds ahead. Not great but better than a lot of vintage watches.

You guys are making me envious, all those great looking watches!

Any idea on where best place to sell some entry level self winders like nicely worn Orient or Seiko Sevens?

ebay or someplace like Watchuseek or other specialty forum?

You could try both, look and see what comparable watches are going for.

If you save what people are spending on high end iems, you could buy a serviced, pre-owned Rolex and have a watch for life.
