You could try demagnetizing it. That could help. Big watch places will often do it for free.

There's a watch repair place nearby I could try. Anything more than free isn't worth it for this watch.

Just received a new watch as a gift, and I love it! It's a Movado Silver Dial Stainless Steel. Now I just need a Tag Heuer or Omega and a Job making $70/hour to afford one.

Took some slo-mo vids of my watches. This is the best I can do without a tripod and the lenses I have. I'll do it again whenever I get better equipment. The 1200fps is kinda crap, but useful for academic reasons since I can see how many frames are in between each tick to get an accurate timing of the movement. Also you get to see the hands shake a bit.

Hacking is the term for when you pull the crown out the watch stops ticking - as in "The movement hacks" or "The movement is a hacking movement". If your watch is not hacking you can likely still stop the second while there is power. Pull out the crown to set the time and every so slightly turn it clockwise (the top of crown turning away from you, as in to turn the time backwards). If you apply just a bit of pressure, not enough to actually change the time the second hand should freeze in place allowing you to sync it. This can be a delicate balance, but if done right, it will stop the watch while the pressure is applied.

My choice of watches is affected by my intolerance of anything on my wrist or any jewellery; what is this wrist-mounting fetish you all have?

Here is a supreme example of my middle-agedness, hanging this from my belt loops -

To be fair, I've had it for years and it's been great.

I hated wearing a watch on my wrist when I was a kid but now it's ok as an adult. I'm actual find it strange when ppl hook stuff to their belt or any hip area loops. Too much jangling around. But I also hate having stuff in my pocket. I just have keys, wallet, and phone in my left or right pant pockets ... don't like it but I just deal with it.

Me too. When I took up making jewellery as a hobby, item number one was, as it probably is for many, as it combines many uselful techniques in a simple thing, a plain silver band ring. Of course, it was sized to fit one of my fingers, but rings on my fingers are just so uncomfortable I would never actually wear it.

Only in recent years did I give up wearing a wristwatch. I live in the tropics, sweat just rots leather, and I dislike metal bracelets.

I think I have (or had) a nickel intolerance and had to wear a sweat band on my wrist in the 80s, with watch over that. Maybe I'll try it now I'm a big boy and see. I had a cheap Shure watch a while back but gave it to my nephew; the spoilt sod probably doesn't even wear it.

Rings are arguably worse than watches, although it's fun to give a firm handshake to those who like them ;)

You can put a Nato strap on a watch and it looks great, resists humidity, and is comfortable. Plus, they come in all sorts of colors and patterns, so changing a strap is a little like having a new watch.

There are also rubber straps that are surprisingly not bad in every way.

As for wrist wear, generally, it's one of the few sorts of accessories (jewelry, let's say) a man can wear both in casual and more professional setting.

You should be able to get around that fairly easily as there are watches with different materials for the case, such as ceramic, titanium, even wood!

I want to like it, but something about it is amiss for me. Maybe too boy scout.

No, but I think it probably would look better on leather.
