I couldn't hold myself and jumped on the Massdrop Plus train.

I am awaiting a new DAP* with high output impedance (4.8 ohm) so I will write something about this pairing after the MD+ arrive (however, don't expect much, quite a noob).

*Hidizs AP200. Don't judge me. It is cheap, small and has Android I need for Tidal. And it is pretty :)

These seem to be fairly similar to the CA Orion. Do they sound similar? If so, I'd probably go with the Orion for the (subjectively) better build material.

That looks too close not to the same BA in mid and highs. I'm going on a limb here but I'm willing to bet ED or RAB for mid/highs plus some double BA for lows . If Knowles, HODVTEC with significant damping in the driver tube.

    Huh?

I'm pretty sure that the ER4 uses this Knowles driver:

The drivers in the Plus are from Sonion. Two vented BA for the bass, and one BA for the highs/ mids.

I think it was like January 16 earlier today. I wonder if they'll stagger out shipping (?).

I saw in one of the Massdrop comments CEE TEE said the initial Jan 16th date was an' error' and these will ship Feb 21 for everyone. I went ahead an jumped on this drop within the first few minutes. Based on the impressions from @shotgunshane and @Marvey and others the Plus sound like something I will enjoy and is a solid value at this price point. I also want to support what this product represents: a combination of 1) IEM technology trickling down to consumers at a more accessible price point, 2) the sensibility of hobbyists designing and tuning a product for other hobbyists (rather than Marketing experts shoving buzzwords and more drivers into the product description) 3) assembled and QC done in the US. This gives me confidence that I'm going to (eventually) receive a pair of great-sounding IEMs that sound the way they promised and like all of the other sets that get shipped out.

I'm someone who likes trying stuff and having options. As such, I already have way way too much gear to listen to between now and February, so I'm OK with the wait. But I certainly can see how this might be a dealbreaker for someone looking for a solid IEM right now.

I love what Massdrop is trying to do, but I do wish that they would be more transparent with 1) the number of units that will be available 2) the estimated ship dates 3) upcoming drops further out. It's hard to know how quickly you should jump on these, how long you should expect to wait, and when you should start saving up for something new and cool like the Plus IEMs.

The ship date suddenly increasing by a month is something of an asspain for those of us not in the secret treehaus club. Massdrop is enough of an exercise in long-term memory as it is!

Ugh... they extended the delivery date? That's unfortunate, but I guess there's not much you can do on supply chains.

I'm new to IEM's so this will be my first pair. I'm looking forward to what they can deliver.

Honestly, if you don't want to spend $1000+ on an IEM, this is the IEM to get. The Noble X is great as a fun counterpoint but, honestly, if I was in the sub $1000 (hell, sub $500) range for a portable system, I'd get these plus a reasonable player with low OI and go to town.

    In for a pair.

With regard to ship date: I know MD likes to under promise and over deliver. I'm guessing Feb 21 is a pessimistic estimate. All of the custom massdrop products I've gotten recently have shipped at least a couple of weeks before the anticipated ship date. Some even longer.

Took a huge leap of faith and decided to sell my Valhalla 2 and HD600 for this. Hopefully I won't want to go back in time and smack myself in a few months...

@Marvey if you find the time could you let us know how these fare with the Magni 3? That's what I would be driving them with.

EDIT: I'm bad at reading today. Thanks @Cspirou. Bummer, sounds like they'd be too lean for my liking out of the Magni 3.

I don't think this is a good idea. Why are you selling perfectly fine desktop setup for mobile IEM? Most likely Massdrop will make another round for its IEMs so you can always save money for later.

I'm actually kinda curious if you guys who've gotten into the drop opted for the extra TRRS cable as well. Seems like a good deal for an extra $30, not sure if there's any accompanying change in sound quality though (I'm generally unfamiliar and curious when it comes to balanced connections between components, because all i know is the stuff i've read on here)

Wait, is the cable _extra_ as opposed to just "instead of"? Maybe I should modify my order; I don't have a TRRS yet, and it'll be handy to have around.

I've actually been considering going portable for a few months now. Nowadays 90% of my listening is done on the go. I just haven't had the time to enjoy my home setup the way I used to. I'm sure I'll revisit the idea of a desktop setup later, but it probably will be speakers instead of headphones.

I didn't. Right now I don't see myself using them any other gear other than a smartphone/DAP. It's seems like a good idea for those who want to use it with Geek Outs and such though...
