I really like the LCD-2, but I think the older versions are more interesting personally.
I’d probably go for the e-stats! But that’s just me.

Well "just you" has a lot of power when it comes to my headphone purchases.

How would you describe L300 in comparison to the TH 900? I assume more well behaved, less bass - what else does it have that the TH 900 does not? I know that there is a different "feel" for the sound with e stats as well

The L300 definitely has less bass presence, but it has nice extension. Midrange doesn’t have the dip that the TH900, the treble isn’t as uneven. So “more behaved” is a pretty good way of describing it.

Mostly the TH900 has more of a solid presence and organic feel. The Lambdas more airy. I think the L300 are better for a wider range of music.

Most of all the Stax are just different. If you’re looking for something new, it’s the way to go.

    @MuppetFace

Thank you very much for answering all my questions. I will be purchasing the L300 and the amp tomorrow ! :D

I have one last question, however..

Currently, I use a custom built solid state amp that is very powerful - I am very happy with it. But, my DAC is only a dragonfly red. What upgrade would you be looking at making ? Do you have any recommendations? I know schiit stuff is popular here, should I go for something like the bifrost or ?

    Haven’t heard them!

Knowing what I know about e-stats and IEMs however, I would guess them to be super detailed but have next to no sense of weight or impact.

I do like the Shure SE846 tho!

Another headphone advice badly needed. I am progressing with a cleanup of my main and desk headphone setup, and finally I got to headphones.
There are some I am determined to keep: HD800S, Bayer T5p.2, AKG 240K DF, DT880 600ohms.
I would like to add a high end planar to replace my HE500.
I mostly listen to classical music, I am focused on resolution, and want piano, and string instruments, to sound natural.
My top candidate is HEK v2 but I have second thoughts about hifiman reliability, then LCD-3, reliability is a concern again. Anything else I should consider?

If Hawks are your jam, I can't recommend the HD800S. It lacks a lot of weight in comparison and never really feels like it gets that low. The hawks have a obvious bass bump/presence in comparison.

First off, you ignored my dac question. Its fine though, I have another you might find more interesting!

I have the opportunity to get a Cary Audio 300B SE tube ampllifier. Have you heard anything about them? It would seem its really old, and I can't find a whole lot of information about it online. It looks like this

@MuppetFace What's your favorite brand + color for deep green nail polish? My girlfriend is big on nail polish and never seems to find a deep green she's happy with.
