OK - some folks like the Focal sound, some don't. Ditto Audeze. I sold my Utopia and LCD-X: not a fan. I prefer the sound signature of the Aeon (or HD800S or HEKv2) over the Utopia or LCD-X. YMMV.

Not sure you would get many takers for the HE560 over the Aeon, but to each their own.

It would be a much less interesting hobby if we all had the same tastes / preferences.

Just got my AFO. I was seriously considering the 660s but found that it's just too uncomfortable with the clamping force. The sound on the AFO is pretty good so far, even without burn-in, very tight and present sound. I do notice there's a touch of sibilance. Does that go away after burn-in? or should I start putting some of the tuning pads in? I find myself actually on the more sensitive to sibiliance side of things. Also I find the clamping force to be just a touch tight. Should I try bending the nitinol headband? I'm worried about breaking it.

You're not supposed to try to bend the headband according to Mr. Speakers because you can damage it. I would just try the tuning pads if you find it sibilant without, it can't hurt to try it and it only takes a few seconds to take them in or out.

Do not bend the head band. The clamp will lessen when the pads compress and settle in.

Yep, good call. It's definitely more comfortable now. Thanks for the heads up.

Yup that was my experience - felt like the whole bottom half of the music was gone. Tried them for 2 weeks with burn-in, pad adjustment, blah blah blah and sent them back. Replaced them with the HD600 and TH-X00 mahogany and it's a great replacement

the paradox are an endgame headphone for me, like high end stax. it's crazy how little talk they get, even around here (where they were born)

I never liked T50RP driver bass performance.

but it's pretty loud IMO even if it doesn't slam, at least on my paradoxes. Can hear down to about 20hz and it's enough to shake me a bit.

I have small ears and the sides of my head are very flat, so I may be getting an abnormally good seal.

I mean, it can be, Alpha Dogs can be anything you want, strictly bass neutral or quite boomy - basically the driver is not a problem, it is merely the matter of a bass port.

Is anyone using a Jotunheim with the Aeon? If so, is the pairing bright at all?

I use the closed with a jotunheim and it sounds fine (the same) as a my Vali 2, lh Labs go2pro, or older headroom stack. Personally I am not able to discern a difference between amplifiers that meet a very low minimum standard and can drive the headphone to adequate spl. That's just me though, Lord knows I've tried. The aeon closed is probably always going to sound a little bright, unless you get a source with tons of high frequency rolloff.

I've tried Aeon Open with Jotunheim and Modi Multibit. For me, it's a bit on the warm side though can get a tad hot with some tracks, but still perfectly listenable. Much like listening to a modded HD650 tonality-wise, but just a bit livelier, brighter. I like the combo. I haven't heard EMU Teak yet, so not sure if this will sound bright for you or not, sorry. One man's warm can be another man's bright, or so they say.

Aeon Closed is a no-go for me though. It already sounds lean and tinny on its own for me, and becomes even leaner and screechier with the Jot. Then again, I don't hold Aeon Closed in high regards to begin with even out of Yggdrasil and Mjolnir 2 (BAL, stock tubes) when I tried it out at the store for an hour. I can't listen to Aeon Closed for long out of anything without swapping to its open-backed sibling instead. As always, YMMV.

Actually would love to hear any residual memories about that.

Currently the only closed I have is the Atticus, I need something that can do everything the ZMF can't in noisy environments, which includes resolving game audio cues in the highs.

the reality is there are no residual memories in this regard, because I don't game.
that comment was an inside joke toward @Hands and some mods. ;)

    mine came

    first impressions:

My daily listener is the Paradox, which have a faulty cup wire so I needed a new daily. l saw the measurements for these were really similar (eerily similar, really) to the Paradox so I bought some just to see.

in the sound, that impression carries a lot! they are dreadfully similar-sounding, with one huge difference: mid-bass amount. the Paradox has a ton more. I would characterize the Aeon as sounding more...distant--more like you're an observer--and the Paradox being more musical and engaging. It's basically just a significantly less musical, more detached paradox.

Wouldn't buy one over the paradox for enjoyment listening. It might have an edge in certain critical listening applications, but not many.

    Edit

this might just be driver proximity. i wore my paradoxes for 14 hours a day for 3 years, giving me a whopping 15,000 hours on them. the pads are pancakes.

    Edit

if i push the aeons that close the difference almost disappears so who knows

    Edit

I hope these headphones like being on my face cuz they're probably gonna be on my face for 15,000 hours too
