It's a naming scheme, we started naming homeless kittens we received with SI units. So far we've had, in addition to her: Ohm, Tesla, Watt, Lux, Sievert and Weber. If we received adult female cats, we name those after Scandinavian goddesses and adult males after Lord Of The Rings characters.

Thanks! It's extremely rewarding if time consuming. Cats come in scared shitless, some never having had any contact with humans. The first time they drop their guard and let you pet them after days, weeks and months of wearing them down... it's purdy cool. 10/10

My experience is that they stand at the door, announcing, "I'm here!"

But seriously, hats off to the great work that you do, and admiration to your lady cat, radioactive or not! And I can't resist a hello to your two others, even if they are arseholes!

My cat is not so much an arsehole as an idiot. It is bad enough (and socially irresponsible) that I left him emballed until the worst happened, but at least most tom cats leave other people with the problem. He brought the pregnant girl home with him. From one cat to five in one easy stage.

Here's a poorly lit photo of the whole gang. They're good boyos, but classic cats so you never know if you're going to get extreme affection or a slap.

Hmmm... scary! I wouldn't want to argue with those guys!

Now, if people like that were in charge of crowdfunding...

Here is recent pic of our Polly who we had to put down today. She was 14. She had various health problems stemming from 6 months ago. She kept loosing weight and the past few days had become incontinent. Her quality of life the past month was difficult to say the least. We did not want to pay for expensive tests, but best the vet could tell was lymphoma or lupus.

She was polydacyl (a "Hemmingway" cat), and this kind of freaked me out at first. My wife rescued Polly while my wife was in college before we met. She was only 2 or so when I first met Polly. She could be a crazy cat sometimes, but always looked for a warm lap to be in come evening. Although my sneezes would drive her away, but then would come back a minute later. We shall miss our cuddly kitty.

That is quite young for a cat. Very sorry to hear it: what a hole she will leave in your lives.

    Thank you.

Our last cat lived a long life until 22. He died 2 years ago.

Forgot to add to this thread, but the family (my sister, technically) got a new dog a couple days back. Adorable little bugger:

Not technically a pet but from an organization I support. This place cares for displaced large cats such as cats from circuses that closed, or from people who thought it would be neat to own a tiger until they realized how much meat they eat. They take them in and give them a secure life and care. Sort of a retirement home for large cats.

This is a picture of a very good friend (apparently). He's a really large Siberian tiger. When I arrived he was playing with his toy ball. Picture a domestic cat playing with a ping-pong ball. Aside from the fact that his ball weighs 55 pounds, same thing. Lots of simulated violence and roaring. When that was all finished he trotted over to me and gave me a number of chuffing sounds. Didn't sound particularly threatening. I'm told that it's not; it's the way tigers greet each other. In this case, sort of a "Hi there, I'm excited and happy you're here" rather than an invitation to lunch. Not exactly sure why he's taken a shine to me; maybe he recognizes a cat person? Don't know, but it makes it difficult to get a good picture of him since he stayed right up against the fence. Got this later in the day...

Meet Buster. He's only 6 weeks old in this picture and gets to come home on the 23rd.
