Haha yeah I’ve heard of them, they’re Seiko’s sister brand.

Just for fun: The ultra high end of Seiko lies in their Credor line.

Check out how the Credor Eichi II stacks up to some legendary watches.

    https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/with-the-seiko-eichi-ii-versus-dufour-and-ferrier

True story: Philippe Dufour is basically a living god of watchmaking. The small team of watchmakers at Seiko who make things like the Eichi II (in their own studio) have Dufour's picture up in a high, respected place in that studio. He actually visited and tutored them and they respect the hell out of him. It's pretty cool that he came to share and they consider him a respected teacher.

People in the watch world make a big deal of in-house movements, which isn't as common for quartz.

Well when it comes to Seiko, they will actually grow their own quartz for their high-end watches. That is serious attention to detail.

The Seiko solar dive watch I bought has the V175 movement. Seiko developed it for the new Prospex line. I actually did not care one bit for that movement. Thing is, matched to solar technology you have a solid quartz movement that can last as long as an automatic watch with service intervals.

I chose that over the Seiko 4R35/36 movement. The combination of quartz and solar even gives my Steinhart with a good ETA- movement a run for its money.

And still Seiko is not bragging. They show you the specifications and you decide. They are proper nerds...

Next watch I hope to get is something from their Kinetic line. The features of an automatic watch with the accuracy and low maintenance of a quartz.

I prefer solar. The watch keeps running on light. Daily wear is an option in that case. My solar dive watch is always next to the window ;)

Does Omega still make affordable watches? I had one when I was a teenager. Must have lasted me over a decade, maybe longer, but sadly, I took it off on a hired rowing boat, forgot it, and was never re-united.

Just received my Seiko SARB033 today. The SARB033/35/17 are being discontinued so I took this opportunity to own one before the used market jacks up the price. I know it doesn’t compare to a lot of watches on this thread, but it feels and looks great. Money well spent... looks more expensive than what I paid for it.

Below is a picture of it next to my previous daily beater, a trusty Seiko 5, for comparison. IMO, a substantial jump in quality, makes the Seiko 5 seriously look like a toy. Still impatiently waiting for my order of leather straps, which should be here in a week or too.

This watch arrived yesterday. It is solar/light powered and ticks audibly. Surprisingly light and fun to wear. I now feel obliged to add a Sistem 51, I love those designs. This hobby...

IIRC they were having a hard time getting the red/blue transition not to bleed with the ceramics. They managed black/blue a few years ago but the contrast of red was too difficult. Then they released red/blue in white gold only, so...relatively unobtanium. Now the common bastard can mortgage his house and get a steel one.

I have a SBBN015 from the generation before Seiko released Prospex to the world. I still think it's one of the classiest Tunas:

Man, that thing looks SOLID. In like a well built but still sleek sort of way. I dig it, definitely gonna be checking those out for myself now.

No. They are chasing Rolex and they think raising their prices to above Rolex makes them better? To be fair, they have greatly upped the movements inside (although they have yet to understand how to make a thin watch, all their models tend to be hockey pucks).

That's a pity. My affordable (maybe it was about 20GBP in, not sure when 1969 or something) Omega was a lovely watch and I was fond of it. Possibly it was my last clockwork watch.

Yesterday my Vostok Amphibia(n) arrived. Changed the strap to a blue nato and I have not taken it off ever since. The Vostok Amphibia(n) is a quirky dive/military watch and it is the first watch I want a second one of.

I will take a picture later to share. Thing is, in the world of watches Vostok makes one watch that has more character than most watches will ever have.

P.S. I have to make room in my collection now.

So tired of seeing these guys' commercials. Such overpriced junk.

Seems like dude needs to go hang out with Ryan Lochte.

Still not buying their watches. When a fashion watch with a quartz movement costs more than a basic SKX something is wrong. What exactly? MVMNT knows marketing, Seiko clearly does not and the average consumer is easily tricked into buying a watch that might not be worth a lot in parts.

Love my mechanical watches, but that means watch winders or manual winding. For a low maintenance option, solar wins for me too.
