Also, being Stax's 80th anniversary, it would be underwhelming to not have an "SR-011" at the end of year (009S will be the 10th flagship)...let's see how it goes!

I miss the PB we ate in the US - was just a bunch of honey-roasted peanuts in one of those PB grinding machines. So good!

@bixby thanks, I actually looked it up and turns out it’s the same sugar content. There’s something about how the flavour is concentrated in US pb that they just can’t quite pull off over here.

I guess to keep the Final Thread moving onward I'll move to here but all I wanted to add was if that's the case that a DAVE wasn't enough to drive them (Believable as it's not for many planars) they shouldn't have had that be the only amp at their booth at RMAF that wasn't a dap...

That's a very good point, don't know about headphone makers, but in speaker demos dealers tend to use equipment based on business relationships (ie, not the best amp for X speakers but he carries both)...it's not always like that but could be the case.

My first listen of the Utopia was from a Naim streamer. Focal and Naim merged a few years prior, it definitely didn’t do the Utopia justice, and it’s pretty efficient.

The common sentimet for not-so-efficient planars seems to be giving them lots of juice, so that D8000 you tried may well have been under nourished:

      1. Taverius
        Taverius
I've always wondered about that; I mean, the female is called a peahen, so you'd expect an association with peas.

But having owned one, peas are not what come to mind when I think about one: rather, it is the intense desire to murder them.

Though I suppose Awfulscreechatfouramcock is not a good name :P

They anticipate the desire to murder. Hence sounding as if somebody IS murdering them.

But... Possibly the most beautiful bird in the world. Everybody knows them. It doesn't take a three month trek to possibly, maube spot one. If it did, I'm sure they would be the absolute pinacle of birder ambition. But I'll leave living with them to someone else :)

Speaking of the intersection of audio and music. I read about some music reviewer that listened to everything through apple earbuds. I guess an argument can be made that most people listen to music this way. But really, take your job a little more seriously and invest in quality gear.

I agree @Cspirou, something like the Sennheiser HD5xx line is not expensive and would do the trick, it's also a good idea to have the apple earbuds as a reference too, but not as the only way to review music, that's irresponsible imho

Also some sort of two channel system. Even though most music is enjoyed through headphones, in the studio they mix it for speakers. Get some lsr308s on standmounts.
