Not sure why, but there’s something about brown liquor & music that just seems to go hand in hand. (My 1st real music listening in 7 weeks)

Agreed, but I also tend to find that brown liquor makes just about everything better. Music, cigars, video games, binge watching Tv shows, blow jobs....etc

No, I actually sent a reply, but then I noticed it isn't worth it. It wasn't directed towards you, though, because your tips were random gibberish. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." But I just don't want to do like SBAF Romans do because I think it's wrong on so many levels. So, goodbye!

In all seriousness, @k.e., Your post amounted to saying “lots of other people like this thing I like, and I don’t even know what this other person who doesn’t like it means, who must be bias, because I disagree”. There was no constructive dialogue. Someone had a different opinion, that’s perfectly normal, regardless of their delivery. Move on.

The real issue is, and this is a question I think you should ask to yourself privately:

“Why can’t I let it go?”

Occurred to me that estats not having magnets makes the amp a much more integral part of a HP. It serves as the motor, sort of, right?

You might be able to say that. I think the better thing to say is they have no motor.

Pretty much. I hear a cool upgrade is to get the Koss stats and then upgrade to a Stax amp.

A theoretical for staunch tube lovers: If you had to use a stereotypical SS amp. What HP would you choose, at any price but excluding Senns?

Thanks @brencho. I’ve been thinking about how I might achieve some tube-like presentation if I downsized to something transportable like an RME or Soekris, as I don’t think I could go without it now and the Utopia doesn’t seem to get on well with SS.

I was thinking along the lines of planar or bio-cellulose, more damping, and wooden cups if appropriate. Like the ones you suggested, and the ZMFs.

AKG K500/501 or K601 on high gain. The AKG K-series need power for those drivers to sound their best. You can skip the tube bliss with that beautiful AKG-midrange. If vintage is your thing find a good K240 DF...

Its about time a Schiit amp gets reviewed on Innerfidelity. Sure the Bifrost got reviewed but I'm not sure why a standalone DAC gets mentioned on a headphone site.

...audio to keep their customers ill-informed, and therefore unhappy and out of pocket as they ride the merry-go-round of poor purchasing decisions. Sennheiser, Focal, Audeze, and Sony can’t have been happy about all these terribly inconvenient measurements floating around of late.

What do we think the chances are of a new hp from Focal with Utopia’s perf. and Clear’s tuning? Then again the problem is more colouration->

->than tonal, and the perforated pads seem to be responsible for the latter in the line up. So unless they try using that new Zylon stuff, probably not much.

While I've never heard their headphones, their studio monitors have that kind of "metal coloration" (while having ruler flat frequency response), if they try to get rid of it on a new "moar better" headphone with a better and even fancier material, they probably will have to redesign their whole speaker line...I think it won't happen, not even in 10 years

With such a wide difference in cost to TOTL tube amps, could there be any value in running 2x ZDT Jr in a monoblock configuration?

That’s $800 just to get going, at which point why not save up for a true TOTL amp?

Trying to keep my total spend from getting any higher, and have been considering my full tube amp options beyond the Mj2. There don’t seem to be many or even any worthwhile choices between the Mj2/ZDT Jr and the ZDS, and forum impressions indicate that the T3’s narrow staging is a poor match for the also narrowly staged Utopia.

I expect the Asgard/Lyr/Valhalla lines to see a real shake up, or even discontinuation for one or two of them. I think Rag will see an upgrade, maybe even a direction change, as many here and the head gents at Schiit seem to prefer the Mj2. Earlier this year Moffat stated that a new Mjolnir was currently not an active project.

Maybe a Bimby V2 would use a new Back/Front aluminum chassis... as in being non-backwards Upgradable from V1 & a new design (which is a digital domain) so Mike's field of expertise.

        Maybe a (BAL+SE Outs) Bimby V2?

Or Bimby V2 w/ BWD (i2s like) inputs.

Or something like a Freya & Saga w/ Octal-LISST Tubes (which could be one of Jason's Analogue domain surprises).

        Or Bimby V2 w/ new Pivot-Point Gain-Stage topology.
