I started listening to music on reel to reel many (50+) years ago. My first turntable was a Goldring G101, followed by a Thorens TD160, which I modded to reduce arm mass. Both sounded great to me at the time! I ended up with an LP12, Ekos setup with Naim Supernait and S-400s. I added CD along the way finishing with a Naim CDX2.
I found that I wasn’t using this setup as much as I used to so started attending shows and reading online - inspired by the incredible sound I was getting from my portable set up, which has also improved over the years!
I finished up with the list above and now find I’m listening to loads more music. Helped very much by excellent streaming services like Qobuz.
My musical tastes were very much British prog rock in the 70s but has expanded greatly over the years. I listen to all sorts apart from manufactured pop but not enough classical - I am exploring this slowly but surely! [This is the short version, will expand one day! :)]
