All DIY jobs have been traps to me: costed more performed poorer. Plus I'm not smart enough to understand estat amp schematics..

2018 is weird and exciting. MCTH is challenged by Lyr 3 now. Lyr 3 will be challenged by MMLP after two months. What a soap opera!

In my understanding range of mid-fi is very wide in sbaf. For tube amps, from anything not that cheap (>$300) to anything not super expensive (roughly <$3000).

In other words, "get XXX and save up to YYY" ... I regard anything in XXX as "mid-fi".

The MCTH is half the price of the Lyr 3. They can be thought of as appealing to different price categories. If Lyr 3 is in fact better for most headphones than Rag, then either Rag is mid-fi too or Lyr 3 reproaches mid-fi status. Just my way of thinking about it.

The term mid-fi is linked to price, i get that. Once in a while, however, something comes along that defies the term. People have spent 2 - 10 times as much as the Lyr 3, for worse sound.

Sorry Monoprice, I'm betting on the Lyr 3.

Need to know what headphones you're using. I expect the performance to be similar for some headphones and fairly different for others.

Quite amazed by cheap audeze (lcd2c) and stax (sr2170). Everyone must hear when their frs are properly eqed.

Finally I managed to make srs2170 rock: With aid of emulated/adjusted ed-1 and inversed polarity (all by adi-2 dac)
