How's engine response compared to the V10?

I'm going to bring up stuff I notice with the new cars. I think the interior quality of the E60 and E90 was better. Might not look as nice as it does now, but was more sturdy. I can't stand the new steering wheels because they don't fit my hands. There isn't enough surface area for my palm at the 9 and 3 positions.

The DCT is indeed a big upgrade over the old SMG though. It shifts very fast and at your desire.

    Enjoy the car!

Hard to say, but I think the V8 is more responsive. The dynos I've seen are more linear. More torque throughout, with the V10 there was a dip in the torque.

    Congrats, that's very pretty indeed!

The X6 M I switched to recently has the Donnington Grey exterior/Merino Red interior ... and I was really skeptical about the red until I actually sat in the thing. Since then it's really grown on me. Doing it again I'd probably go with a darker grey exterior, but that blue on yours is gorgeous (would clash horribly with a red interior though!).

I have that on mine as well and have been pleasantly surprised by how it is for a factory install. I'm not sure about things like the center speaker going up and down when you turn it on (and sometimes it'll go up and down on it's own when you fire the car up ... for no apparent reason). Seems to be at least on par with the one installed in my last fun car.

I felt the same way about the red interior first time around. The minute I saw it in person, I knew I made the right choice.

I picked her up yesterday afternoon... Wow is all I can say. This car is unreal. Much different than the previous generation M6. A bit more refined, but a bit faster too. I absolutely love it. I couldn't be happier. Car is an absolute dream come true for me. I've waited 8 years for this day...

Coming from a G37... Night and day difference obviously. It's not even funny the difference. I'm going to make sure it's working perfectly, in 2 weeks I'll begin some engine mods.

Getting a stage 1 tune, and adding new down pipes. Should be good for about 75hp gain to the wheels, maybe closer to 100. Should be putting about 600-650hp to the wheels. I'll see from there if I want further performance upgrades. If I do, it will be a stage 2 tune, new turbos, upgrade the clutch packs, and a meth injection. That's a pretty serious upgrade though and I doubt I'll do it. Time will tell.

The tranny on this car is insane. I definitely miss the clutch pedal, but there is no way in hell a traditional manual would be faster. The shifting on the dct is on another level. I won't lie, I definitely prefer a traditional manual over this, even with the performance loss. There is just something about driving stick. But, I have no regrets. I love it anyway. Bought my first mod, changing the shifter, just the housing, carbon fiber. Probably going to swap the wheels, same rims, except I want them black. Also, will add a carbon fiber front lip, and more than likely a carbon fiber rear diffuser.

Mmm DCT is amazing. Really fast shifts.

If you're going with new wheels, why not go wider? Need more grip to handle all that power.

Yes, I definitely should. Your the 2nd person to tell me that. I'm hoping I can find something identical or very similar to the stock rims, in black, but wider.

Wow, stock width is only 265?! That's the same width as my M3 and I could easily make the rear step out when my car has less power and torque. You should try to see if you can fit 295 or 305 rears. Obviously need to widen the fronts too or handling would be affected.

I really like the look of Volk TE37's. Very light and strong. I'm not willing to shell out the money for a set so I'm sticking with my ZCP wheels which look fantastic too, but not 1 piece forged and as light.

Yes, I really thought they'd come with a little wider tires. I had looking for rims. Not my thing. In all the cars I've owned, I've never upgraded the stock rims, not once. I don't even know to begin where or how to choose tires.

The ZCP wheels are incredible anyway. My partners daughter wants an M4, so I've been looking around for her. Seen some really nice ones, especially the ZCP packages.

Can you get your M3 coded like the m5/6? I can get certain things programmed on here, change the boot menu, have the mirrors fold automatically, add navigation, turn signals to the HUD, and a bunch of other cool things. Costs $126 (26 for the cable) and the guy gives you all these different options.

I'd start with looking on the forums to see what tire width guys are running on their M6 along with the bolt pattern and offset. 265 really isn't wide enough for that amount of power.

Are you talking about Alex@alpine for coding? I had him code my car already, primarily for the DCT flash. The DCT is flashed to the GTS spec which shifts even faster. The rest of my car is Spartan so no nav or powered anything. I couldn't select any of those options and after owning this for 4 months, I wouldn't have the car any other way. The original owner specced this thing great.

My mom's got a 2015 X5 and the nav is basically useless to me. It's way faster to do a search on my phone. Only thing I do like is the backup camera.

That's what I'm doing. It's a lot slower on the forums for the F12/13 Ms than the E63/4 Ms. It's basically dead. Not sure if it's because the M division is losing its way a bit for the true enthusiasts with the ridiculously heavy cars, gadgets, luxury, and losing touch with the road a bit. 8 years ago, there were plenty of meets, guys very active on the forums, etc. I definitely understand where they are coming from, this car is much more refined than the previous generation M6, for sure. But damn, it's still a blast to drive, has more hp and available torque from 1900 or 2500 rpm, unlike the previous generation, which bad the anazing high Rev V10, but much lower torque, which was only available at 5k rpms +.

Anyway, I'm going to research more on the forums. I'll check the standard 6er as they seem to be very active still.

I have a different guy for mine, but yes, that was the coding I was referring to. Never had that before. Really awesome to have that available.

Really need to be careful with this car. It speeds and very easily. Luckily you can set a speed warning. I've high speeds several times without realizing it. Lol. Going to be hard to stay at reasonable speeds.

Looking forward to the bigger tires. I can easily spin the wheels in 2nd still, which IIRC, is over 60mph. Haven't tried 3rd yet, but I think people where claiming you lose traction in 3rd as well, but they were not stock. Car is insane.

Someone in my building has a new M4. Beautiful car. I haven't seen him since I bought mine, but would love to go for a run with him. They should be very close in performance. Obviously tracking would be different and the more nimble M3/4 would out perform the chubby 6er. Lol. Wish I could have tested the M3/4, the newer ones. I think I would have really enjoyed them. They are beautiful cars too.

Sorry if I missed it, did you do any performance mods on your car bro?

I just hardwired am Escort max360 radar detector as it's super easy to go way past the speed limit. Though you know when you're going fast as the engine would be so loud :D. Gotta watch out for those cops!

No real performance mods so far only a washable dry intake filter. I did some preventative maintenance weeks ago for the throttle actuators. Was a fun Sunday project and got to start the car with the throttle bodies naked! It sounded glorious!

I plan to keep this car forever so reliability is a priority. I was initially going to buy a high mileage cheap car and supercharge it but changed my mind as this car was in such great condition.

If I'm throwing more money at it, it will be to make it lighter and responsive such as lighter wheels and carbon fiber drive shaft.

I briefly drove the new M3 and wasn't really impressed with it. Sure it's faster but it's not really better. Doesn't feel raw.

The next car I got my eyes on is the Lotus Evora 400.

I hear you bro. Making your car lighter is a great choice too. Probably what I need to do, especially with the car being over 4500lbs. Lol.

See what you said about the new M3, that's what everyone is saying about bmw. I definitely noticed it between this M6 and my last one. Not complaining, I absolutely love this car, I just noticed it's a bit more refined. The steering is very heavy, but it doesn't feel like it's as natural. There is definitely less feedback from the steering. I noticed it yesterday during some spirited driving.

Lotus Evora? Never heard of it. Going to check it out. I love some other their cars, others not so much. I had a friend that had one when I had my old m6. He did a shit load of work to it. Car was quick and had insane handling. Like a go cart.

The problem with a 3700lb car or 4500lb is that it's pretty heavy already. There's very little we can do while retaining the comfort and road noise isolation. Any weight reduction probably involves carbon fiber. Another thing I was reading up on was camber plates which could improve cornering. CF driveshaft should improve response.

Yeah, that disconnected steering feel is because it's electric instead of hydraulic which was in the old cars. It's been a big complaint.

The Evora 400 is pretty new. I don't think I've seen one of the street even though there's a dealer pretty close to my house. Only wish is they put in a higher revving engine but seems pretty perfect as is.

Yes, CF is the only way to go, however, that will get very pricey fast. I was reading about campers last night. I don't want to lose my EDD. Not sure if I do with the HK coil overs. Have to research further. I didn't know the new M3 had electric steering, I thought it was still hydraulic. Your year is hydraulic right? I know mine is.

That Lotus is really nice. Has to be a super fun track car. I would enjoy that for a day or 2 each week, but more than that would become intolerable. Just not enough luxury, creature comforts for me. Did you see the back seat? OMG, why did they even bother?? Lol. Do you know what the weight distribution is in that car? Has to be fairly close to 50/50. Is it rwd? I didn't see that mentioned. Definitely a rare beauty. Don't see many Lotus's around either, like you said.

M cars definitely don't get much attention. The everyday person doesn't know the difference between a M and non M. I've definitely received my fair share of comments already though. I'm more low key and the limited recognition I receive is plenty for me.

I was reading that the next generation M cars will be going on diets, so that's really good news. Probably more CF, like you said earlier.

I know the one thing I miss is the sound of my V10. From what I've researched, I will never get that glorious sound again. Hopefully after I change my downpipes the sound will be noticeably more aggressive. The guy at the shop thinks that's all I'll need. Little does he know... When I changed exhaust and headers on my last M6, wow. The sound was ridiculous. It would drive the average person insane, but I loved it, as did every M owner and car enthusiasts I came across.

I opened the valves on my exhaust yesterday. Slight increase in low Rev volume, but not much. Better than nothing. On cold start today, I definitely noticed the increase, and I loved it... For all 5 seconds before she started warming up and revs went down. You have the valves on your M3?

Yeah, my generation car is still hydraulic steering which I love and has a fatter steering wheel.

I'm pretty sure you can have camber plates on an EDC car.

The Evora 400 seems pretty nice inside and supposedly very compliant in ride quality. That's a must on shitty LA roads. I believe weight distribution is 50/50 with driver inside.

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to achieve the noise of that V10 with one these modern cars. That noise was induction noise, not exhaust. Having individual throttle bodies will always give you amazing noise.

I don't believe my M3 has valves. Just sounds great during a cold start, super clanky and rumbly.

I was driving around yesterday doing errands and I kept getting these mexicans trying to show off around me in some sort of Nissan (350Z, G37, etc etc). From the sound, it seems like they did no real performance mods so I could have easily taken them but my engine was still warming up. Eh not worth wearing down the engine for them.

The first race weekend of the year was March 18 and 19. I put the car on pole both race days and won both races. The car, Veronica, sure is fun to drive!

What do you have in it, if you don't mind?

@Torq was just reading an article on Astons. The article stated you can buy a warranty, direct from Aston, on any model Aston that's not older than 10 years, for $4-7k. Seems like a ridiculously good deal.

Found a couple of 09 DBS's... Oh, how I wish. A little over 100k...for, what will be a collectors car for sure. Last of the 6 speeds I think. Such a beautiful car. If I was single... I'd have no more portable audio collection... But I'd have one of my favorite cars ever.

Do you mean dollars or engine? I'll assume engine for now.....

The class I race in is a GT class with some specific limitations. GT classes offer a lot of freedom ion the car setup. The class I race in limits the engine (air-cooled) to 3.6 liters, requires a 1995 or earlier stock throttle body setup, and 1 5/8" or smaller O.D. headers. The idea here is limit the revs at which the engine makes power. Lower revs means longer engine life. We get about 315 H.P at the crank with those restrictions. I run 13:1 compression and have to use 110 octane leaded race fuel ($10 a gallon). Weight with driver is around 2375 lbs.

The car is fast though! Look here:

Wow. Very nice. Awesome car. You drive too? That track looked pretty intense. Lots of sharp turns.
