While I am excited to return to the Blade Runner world (it is in my top 5 of all time if not the top), I already am worried they will try to make it to epic and action-y. I loved the slow burn of the original, really let you marinate in the world that was built. Not sure you can get away with it nowadays, but I sure hope they try.

I always used to answer "Blade Runner" when asked what my favourite movie was. From all the bang bang, pew pew in the trailer, I'm pretty sure the pace will be picked up a lot. But Denis Villeneuve did a pretty good job with Arrival, so there's always hope.

I just watched it last weekend and also thought Ep 7 was better (less worse). Not sure I agree about the characters. Jyn's development from outlaw to rebellion cheerleader was a bit ridiculous. Used my HD650s to watch it and Darth Vadar's voice sounded all wrong, as well as C3PO and Leia. Plus Leia's CGI face was really weird looking too. Seemed like they overspent their SFX budget by the time they got to that scene. I mean, they did a really good job with Grand Moff Tarkin, to the point that I was thinking, "Shouldn't that guy be dead by now?"

Just saw Alien: Covenant. Prometheus was much better. Covenant a bit too predictable in places. Other issues as well that I won't go into so as not to spoil. Felt myself waiting for it to end. Didn't help that two Mainland Chinese were in the row behind me talking like they were watching it in their living room. I often hate going to the theatre as I'm super sensitive to peripheral noise and people kicking my chair. But my wife likes to see movies the week they come out. Oh well.

Just saw Fantastical Beasts. Was this a redone Doctor Who?

    Newt Scamander / Doctor Who
Katerine Waterson: primary female / sexual tension companion
Alison Sudol : the pretty companion
Dan Fogler: the foil / the punching bag / the idiot companion

    Wand: Sonic Screwdriver
Suitcase: Tardas (extradimensional space / storage)

Ezra Miller: Unwilling / unwitting "villain"
Colin Farrell: True villain / disguised Master

MCUSA: bureaucratic agency which Doctor Who runs afoul
    Other Wizards: other Time Lords

    Ivan's Childhood

Andrei Tarkovsky directed this visual poem set during wartime. The cinematography is stunning and is the true star. Not an action film and not a film that engages one easily, but somehow is a powerful experience.

Love most of Tarkovsky's work, this is one of the best. Already pre-ordered for the Stalker Criterion release in July.

I just finished watching it with my wife at the theater , were going to watch Promethus now, she's seen it but I haven't

And yea Covenant was a little predictable and frankly I kept hoping for MORE from it, passed the time nicely though.

Prometheus was better? Oh boy, Covenant must really be ass. Why does everything has to have a mythology now? I think the Xenomorph and Space Jockey's are much more terrifying when you don't know where they came from.

Thursday night, scheduling for GITS 2017 is so irregular in Amsterdam because 3D and special venues that I stayed home and checked my DVD collection.

Blade Runner, the directors cut collectors box with five DVDs full of extras. I choose the 1991/1992 directors cut. This film is amazing. The soundtrack is simply awesome.

The film itself feels like a universe that could exist yet seems unlikely. There is no typical protagonist or typical antagonist, everybody is flawed and the world is a dystopia yet tolerable. This film does not feel like something from 1982 regarding photography and (special) effects.

In short: what an awesome film.

All good points, but was Deckard a replicant?

That's what's implied with the unicorn memory/dream Deckard has paired with the unicorn origami that Gaff leaves at the end. Deckard is a Nexus 7, presumably more capable than the Nexus 6 replicants he is hunting.

I've had the pleasure of seeing the film in theaters a few times- stunning. Don't miss the opportunity.

However, that was only in the Director's Cut. He was human in the Philip K. Dick novel. Also, Ridley Scott and Harrison Ford disagree on whether he is or not. Deckard is in the new trailer, so he didn't have an expiration date like the others and he's also aged considerably. The possibility of more clues is good enough reason for me to see the next one.

@TeaWrex, good points. The novel is radically different from the film, though. A long time ago, I knew a guy who was on the set who said there was a lot of chaos and drugs on the production. Perhaps it is like another masterpiece, Apocalypse Now, where things came together despite the chaos.

Likely since he picked out Rachel immediately. Also despite heavy drinking he still has the strength of an athlete.

Thing is it remains a plot hole unless he states he is what he is. The dude at Tyrell Corp showed keen interest in Deckard but why?

Not sure if anyone here is subscribed to Filmstruck, they just announced a Tarkovsky retrospective for this week:
