No. Only Yggdrasil is left on all the time.

Gonna experiment by leaving it on now that I know the power consumption, but just got it in yesterday so I've only listened on about a 5hr max warmup so far.

Might be speculative, but maybe a Saga would be better if using the Vidar for an HE-6? The output is a little less hot I believe...

Do any of your other headphone amps offer preamp outs?

I wouldn't expect huge gains over Rag if you use a speaker that is moderately efficient. The Rag is actually quite a good speaker amp, but not really appreciated as such. Vidar is underrated in terms of wattage. Best used for inefficient speakers or if you crank it up a lot.

Saga might help. Freya tube gain, coupled with the very high Vidar gain might be too much.

I too have Phil 3s, and I'm pondering if I should get a pair of Vidars for them. The rest of my setup are Gungnir Multibit -> Freya -> a class-D amp.

I use the Freya in JFET buffer mode only. I've tried the stock tubes and Tungsols, and have consistently found that I enjoy the bottom and top extension that the JFET mode gives. Which mode do you use on the Freya?

The iFi iCan Pro got a preamp out, and I think the output from that one is on the warm side, maybe it will pair well with Vidar + HE6? Also it got a tube stage too. Just a thought.

SS power amps that aren't full class A might as well be left on 24/7. My H360 definitely benefitted and was ready to rock at any time.

Well, as hard as it is to reach Vidar's power switch, I may start leaving it on most of the time. I wonder that slight hum in the speakers is going to bother my wife.....

    Is the hum quite noticeable?

I can't hear unless I get right up within a foot of the mid-range cone. That's with Freya off. It's louder with Freya on and loudest in tube gain mode.

I've mostly used tube gain mode with a mid-60's set of tung sols, and although I completely agree that extension is better w/ JFET I feel like tube mode gives a bit more soundstage depth that I prefer with the phils (probably accentuates the depth in the mids due to the open back). I think mono Vidars is 100% overkill unless you're listening in a massive room at high volume.

Sure, they are rated at 4 ohms, but unless you're really cranking the volume you should be able to hear what they're capable of with 100-200w into 4ohms. I expected a bit more bass response from Vidar due to the additional power, but keep in mind that you're only going to dig down to 25-30hz if the track calls for it since they're tuned to be extremely flat. Additional bass control w/ Vidar over Rag: yes. Additional bass: no

Would an Oppo Sonica be a good match with the Vidar amp? Or borderline blasphemy to even consider it

LOL. I'm sure it will be fine. It's a neutral amp and is probably underrated in terms of power. It's just that not only are folks on this forum predisposed toward R2R / 2R DACs, they are allergic to Oppo's ESS SABRE implementations.

Hello gentlemen just joined, I have two vidar I can hear hum through the speakers from both. One has a little transformer hum as well. The hum is loud enough I can hear it in between songs and low parts of songs. Will break in help this? If as is running very hard to hear. I have become spoiled with old yamaha integrated, very quiet. Love Schiit, I want to keep them.

May I ask which Yamaha? (I have a CA-1010 and CA-2010) And are you using the preamp section still?

Sorry, I have Freya and a Saga. Speakers are Sonus Faber Venere 3.0. Yamaha is as2000. Hum is there at power up, nothing else on.

Tried different configurations of preamp amp combos. Best sounding is saga into jotonheim into amps, either mono or stereo.

Now I get the impression that the tubes might be the issue, if the Jot makes the system the quietest...
