I have very fond memories of vinyl sounding good (and that's what matters the most), so odds are I'm in, and will buy this.

Egads, what are albums going for these days?

About twice as much as they used to 20 years ago.

DR matters, but for that nothing is going to replace going to hear live music. Not sure it matters that much anyway for listening at home. I rarely listen at an absolute volume above 80db anyway, so 80db of range is enough.

Used definitely. Just like vinyl. But check for stains on both.

I never fell off the cliff into vinyl, I was born at the cliffs base. We didn't know vinyl could be a pain in the ass. Everything had to be fiddled twiddled whatever. Cars in partcular. Oh shit. Lapsing into good old days story, must resist! Really hated the sound of CD's when they first came out. Playback systems really weren't ready, but hell there was money to make. If the newer TT setups can reduce the pops and clicks I'm probably back in at somepoint. I do get tired of looking at all those boxes of records sitting on the bottom of the closet. It's the price of re-admission that has kept me out. At least up to this point. SOL might be my gateway drug. Glad your going to add the 45 rpm.

I was an early CD adopter. They sounded like harsh digital sheen crap ;) Truth though is that digital playback has matured a lot, and I don't miss the pops and clicks and rituals of caring for vinyl, but I do miss the natural flow and sense of yea, this just sounds good. Worth a retry if Schiit can build a reasonable priced table that just works.

Unfortunately I'm not good with Photoshop, otherwise we could have a pic of Jude wearing it instead.

I was a late CD adopter, and to make matters worse, my modern-music taste got stuck around 1974. Where I have LP and CD, they are pretty much the same (without the clicks) but when I have bought CDs in recent years, I begin to see why people don't like them. My CDs of that music would probably have been bought some years after CD began.

The latest example was Stephen Stills Manasas. I have a dubious-condition second-hand vinyl double album, and thought it would be nice to listen to it pristine. It wasn't nice. I can't claim to play the LPs for preference (turntable:cupboard) but I play my own digitisation instead. crackles and all.

I guess Loki DSD is now the product-that-must-not-be-named. Wee bit in the FAQs. RIP.

What about the name, you’re re-using that, right?
Yep! Loki is the trickster god in Norse mythology. And it’s a neat name for a tricky little product. Now that we’re off the DSD train, it’s perfect for reviving a whole new category of products.

They added a note in their news article: "Note: “Loki” was once used on a defunct Schiit DSD DAC, produced in 2012. The Loki Mini tone control is an all-new, analog product, named for the Norse trickster god."

Negative, the gadget is just another euphemism for the Manhattan Project.

The Gadget will soon be the first product developed as a result of the larger Manhattan Project. It will be available to audition at RMAF.

@baldr, funny that I mentioned how much I miss tone controls in our recent chat! If it wasn't before Loki was announced, it was certainly before I heard of it.

    :)

Me likey look Loki. Player of shiny discs likey look Loki. Me think me buy Loki.

Me go now to "Eddie's Edifying Elocution and Eloquence" class.

Seriously, I was thinking of DIYing a passive equalizer in order to get some timbre control with my CD player. Why bother if I can buy something like the Loki at that price. Besides, it would look nice sitting with my ModiMB & Vali2.
