Ouch, there goes my life again. 450 hours into Grim Dawn so far (bloody hell that sounds bad).

Picked up Grim dawn on steam sale last night, thanks for the tip! I'll be playing this weekend!

Edit: how is the controller support for Grim Dawn? I mostly play games in my living room with an Nvidia shield.

The shield is highly recommended BTW, it has reinvigorated my gaming. My wife actually prefers when I play games in the living room since I'm not hidden away in my office where she can't talk to me easily.

Any retro gamers out there? I got pissed off at my X-Box and went backwards. So far I've amassed 30 Sega Genesis Games and 40 Sega Saturn Games. On my favorites I can't get past the 2nd level, it's like my skill set for those type of games has completely devolved and I feel like an inept toddler. Then again it's fun getting pissed after work on something I can put down in thirty minutes instead of having it consume my entire evening.

If emulation counts sure, I´m a big SNES/NeoGeo fan in particular. It´s amazing how many SNES games more or less invented entire genres (Hi Metroid!) Pixel art especially holds up really well even today. Lately I´ve been thinking about setting up a Raspberry Pi for emulation purposes (or just getting a SNES classic if I can find one) There are some really neat emulation focused Linux distributions for that.

On the modern gaming front, I´ve been almost entirely PC exclusive for quite a while already. Mostly multiplayer stuff like PUBG, Starcraft and Overwatch. Next up is probably Destiny 2. That being said, after a long time using a plasma TV I finally got an LG OLED a few months ago. That kickstarted my interest in console gaming again. Just finished Horizon: Zero Dawn - what an amazing game! HDR is really a game changer too along with 4K resolution. It looks better than anything I´ve seen on PC so far, mostly due to the HDR lighting.

I also use emulators for retro gaming. The app RetroArch on Android is easily the best emulator suite I've used. Paired with a shield tv and an external hard drive it's hard to beat. Plus the shield tv controller is fantastic.

You can say I love retro games.

Pre-orders are up for this today: Link

I pre-ordered the SFC variant earlier today with an everdrive separately.

I can't wait for kevtris to hack these as well.

Should have a hacked firmware a week after release like the NT Mini (which I have and love). Still wondering how the all the enhancement chips will be implemented. Snes Mini emulates all of them to a degree but being that this is fpga, not sure how that would work.

Wow... That looks awesome. I had no idea FPGA emulation had reached the SNES level... Read about NES already being possible, but if that works this is huge for the emulation scene. Finally zero input lag just like with the original hardware.

Also: did I understand correctly that by default the Analogue SuperNT only plays original hardware cartridges, but there should be a custom firmware for it that allows ROM images to be loaded via the SD card as well?

It's not officially announced but Kevtris will probably release a jailbroken firmware allowing it to play roms like the NT Mini. Here's a good video on the whole subject, jail broken info near the end (24:35): Link

Well, does the SoC in the Super NT have enough compute reserved to successfully emulate the ICs in the custom chips in some cartridges? The NES didn't have add-ons in cartridges. That's a big addition he'll have to add. I'm sure it does as the Altera 32bit Cyclone V they used in the original NT was wildly overpowered (at $50/chip it better be) but let's see what happens.

Any FIFA '18 (or earlier iteration) players out there. My son and I only play in regular Play Mode, no ultimate team or anything. We just pick teams that we think make good matchups and maybe do a home and away tie. Anyway, was wondering if in this mode players who are out IRL on injury are not available. For example, Ousmane Dembele does not appear to be on my Barcelona roster. Yes, he is out injured for several months IRL, but taking him out of the game seems silly to me, particularly in a non-online, non-career mode. I mean in career mode, as I understand it, you can have players out "injured" who are perfectly healthy IRL. So, why have real life injuries affect what is almost a demo mode anyway. In this case, we noticed, however, that Dembele is available to play for the French national team. So, he is out inured for Barca (apparently?), but not for France. I thought maybe the trade had not gone through and he was still with Dortmund, but he is not there.

Personally, I would love to have a non-ultimate team season mode where I could play out the full season for my favorite Premier League or Liga side, with computer simulated other games and standings. To my knowledge, and please correct me if I am wrong, this does not exist (and it really could and should). If that were a mode, I would understand tracking real-time injuries. But in the absence of that, why not leave the full rosters in place and not make adjustments for every injury. If I am missing something here please let me know. Would love to play Dembele and Messi together in a game for Barca notwithstanding real life injury.

Retro... I still want to build a mame arcade cabinet one day. I'm also curious to have a go with a BBC emulator and play Chuckie Egg, Yi Ar Kung Fu etc but I'm afraid they'll be shit and taint my happy childhood memories :)

I've been dreaming of a MAME cabinet for years and years, but never have had the time or space. I may now just build a 2 person arcade joystick station and cram everything in there with an hdmi out.

This is what I've been wondering about too. As you mentioned SNES cartridges are more or less motherboard extensions with their added processing chips like DSP-1, SA-1 and SuperFX. It's quite a unique setup. If this system just runs the core SNES console via FPGA and actually runs the special chips from the cartridges it won't work with that many roms with the custom firmware.

It could also just dump the rom from the cart and then run everything on the FPGA. The Retron consoles for example as far as I know just dump the rom and run it via a software emulator. I'm hoping it's the latter... That would be revolutionary for the emulation scene and even more impressive engineering as the added chips have always been the main challenge in SNES emulation. Just look at Nintendo, they are emulating SuperFX games only now for the first time with the SNES Classic.

I've read somewhere that the 3 chips you mentioned have been dumped (bios) for the fpga. The sd2snes emulate them in fpga so the implementation shouldn't be that difficult. Here's a couple of videos explaining how kevtris dumps cores:

Chuckie Egg certainly will. "Chaos", on the Spectrum, on the other hand... more addictive than crack.

Not really sure about the legality of downloading roms. So, picked up a Cyber Gadget Retro Freak with the intention of getting cheap used, snes, nes, and genesis games since it loads and stores the rom from the physical cartridge. Of course, kind of like headphones it didn't stop there. Now I've got an original genesis, nomad, nes, saturn, and even found my old PS1 and Dreamcast in storage. I completely forgot how difficult the older games could be. It's kind of funny but I've got a nice shump library and can rarely get past the second stage on any given game, but I'm getting better and haven't used the PS4 or Xbox one for anything but movies and netflix in months.

Did anyone else here pick up Destiny 2 on PC? I'm Rowsdower#11326 on Battle.net if anyone wants to play.
