Thanks @Dino and @monacelli for understanding my comments. Had to deal with health insurance changes today. I'm sure we all know how much fun that can be. Guess it kinda made this whole HD660S issue seem trivial. Plus the HF post pissed me off. Sounds like an essay I get when someone really doesn't know the answer to the question.
I hope if it is a successor to the HD650 it is not a replacement.

I will now attempt to chill and decipher the various EOC booklets in hopes I don't inadvertently screw myself on medical insurance. Who am I kidding. Screw myself at least cost. :D

Please carry on with the speculations. Thanks for listening to my whiny post . Anax would have ripped a new one, and shit would have been involved.

I am so lucky that my girlfriend absolutely loves comparing insurance plans for herself and me. She is good at it too. All I have to do is listen to her go on about it all a bit and compare her top two picks. Before we got together, it was a form of torture.

Unfortunately, I am not seeing how something can be a successor without also being a replacement. :(

It's interesting that they explicitly state they're a successor on their site, when the HD 800 S came out it seemed like they were avoiding making such a claim in regard to the HD 800, likely because they wanted to sell them together and not have one replace the other.

    Nicely done.

The part that bugs me with this sort of thing is the talking down to readers as much as the empty words that you point out.

My high school English teacher would have given me an F for not reading the book, I mean not listening to the headphone.

I am talking down to the readers. I expect so much more from you guys. Disappointed no one calls out shit like this.

EDIT: Oh I get what you mean. Still disappointed.

There is a reason I do not visit HF. If you are going to curate the material from HF to here, bring the good shit. I don't want the Coors, Heineken, or Thunderbird shit.

I'm picking up what you're putting down. I really need to step off the hype train anyway since I don't plan on buying these for a long time.

We'll order these from Amazon or where-ever as soon as they are available. I don't believe anything at this point. I don't trust Jude's FR plots. I don't know WTF Sennheiser ambassador ElRonHubbardShrugs was trying to say. I was almost blinded by AxelClitoris' shitty photos of the HD660S' (the photos on the Sennheiser site are better). Jude says they are more resolving, but I already know Jude wouldn't know WTF resolving was if it hit him in the face, considering that it already took Currawong 173 years to fully appreciate the Yggdrasil now that he has heard it through the Utopia and maybe a decent amp.

Sorry for the confusion. I did not mean you did this at all.

I meant that the post you are referencing on HF seemed to talk down to its readers. It was quite obvious to me in reading it.

I have no problem at all with your post. It was nicely done.

    Very interesting.

I don't recall if they ever called the HD650 a successor to the HD600. These both sell at the same time.

Do you remember how this successor language/terminology went relative to the HD650 vs. the HD600?

I don't, but it could be very interesting to see how they handled not only the HD650 launch but also the HD600 launch, since I believe that did replace the HD580? Or were they sold alongside each other for a while before the HD580 was discontinued? It does seem like a stretch but Sennheiser strike me as the kind to be very particular about certain things.

Thanks for responding. I appreciate it.

I agree. It would be interesting to compare these events. I have no recollection if the HD580 was replaced so to speak.

I guess all of this relates to how different the sound of each product actually is and also to how much money they have to keep so many products in their production train and in inventory. The profit margin (and demand) must be pretty good if the HD650 is to stay.

Well, it is quite relative actually. At this point there are not many people who have actually heard the HD 660 S, so someone (even if it is from someone who is part of Sennheiser´s ambassador program) who has actually heard the unit multiples times and has most likely spoken to the Sennheiser marketing people (he´s likely been told that they were designed to have a similar frequency response) pointing out that it sounds more different than the FR plots may indicate is something. It´s not much, but I don´t think it´s noise either.

You speak so much about aspiring to maintain a high signal to noise ratio here (which I´m a big fan of ) and on an early speculation thread I would definitely rate the above as something worth posting. It actually brings more signal than some of your own recent ranting posts on this thread have brought to be honest. You seem quite stressed out and are lashing out at things mostly inside your own head/things that at are not exactly objective (although you seem to experience them as such). Anyways, sorry to disagree with your moderating vision, but perhaps you could benefit from a bit of critical self reflection as well?

'...speculation' as thread title calls for noise by itself.
At least it's contained here and not in 5+ different amplifier threads.
I suppose there is no escaping of some mind ejaculating and early Christmas wishes spelled out loud for possible HD650 successor.

Bring back the D2Girls. This thread could do with a Hi or two.

Photos? A Glitzy background, with a giant HD 660S, D2Girl with bare leg wrapped around earpiece. One on each side. HD 660S Ambassadors.

Promotional video? Extend the above theme as pole dancing.

Now I'll save everyone else the trouble by asking this myself:
--- Well, I guess I hoped that actual listening experience would raise its head sooner. And, like waiting hours for a bus , if I give up now, I'm bound to miss it!

I'll add a few things to my previous post:

    - I don't see anything wrong with posting less than perfect pictures here in a situation where any pictures of a new product are rare to find. They are "signal" in a speculation thread. You talk negatively of patronising posts, but your own ranting response with all the Hoth references was the very definition of patronising (and uncalled for really).

    - Same thing about your comments on that Sennheiser ambassadors post on Head-Fi. I certainly didn't get the same interpretation of the tone of that message as you did and then proceeded to rant about.

What I'm trying to say is that it's you that's slipping here - your posts generally follow a much higher quality standard. You've done a great job with this site, but these ourbursts on this thread just seem like a stressed out overreaction to me. Uncharacteristic actually considering your usually fantastic posts.

Did you miss the "fake outrage" post? Marv's sense of humour may sometimes be typical Yorkshire (UK). Sometime you don't get any clue whatsoever that they are actually joking... until they let on.
6-moons studio-photography skills have never seemed to me to be a necessary part of audio appreciation or [amateur] review. Of course, those who have such skills will continue to give us beautiful pics. But, in the 6-moons context, or the aspiring HF-review context, they can also be part of the bullshit, right?

Yup, I've missed it... I usually get Marv's humour, but it just seemed off in these two cases to me. That being said, English isn't my first language.

Oh and to avoid misinterpretations I don't see this whole moderation debate as all that important, just wanted to reply as I was being called out for contributing to low quality posting.

By all means I'm fine if the mods here want to delete my replies to Marv. No problem in agreeing to disagree. This thread is now going off course and this debate should rather happen via private messages anyway.

EDIT: Forgot to reply to the 6-Moons photography comments. Yeah, they were overexposed but the angles especially were interesting since it highlighted the differences between the models. The overexposion had a goal. Besides professional photography is so hard to learn, I have to appload the effort that someone made taking those.

Many will disagree on the stylistic choices made, but there was a vision behind them - just look at watch companies for example. It's all very subjective. They all have these almost 2D looking overexposed look that tell something, but are never even remotely a representation of what the watches look like in real life :) Those HD 660 S shots were obviously stylized pictures and in that genre I actually liked them (the same way I still enjoy reading watch catalogues).

Don"t worry @Vorlon. We're adult enough to take your posts like Marv's one. With the usual grain of salt :)
