I'm in Chennai in the second week of Jan with a pair of Utopias. A mini meet would be excellent.

@jexby Damn I KNEW that had to be it! Only ever tried the yellow at a friend's recommendation but I absolutely love the stuff. Too bad I can't keep a bottle at home because the parents are... a tad discouraging about drinking. How's the green compare?

Hah! I have a history with chartreuse too. As a teenager, a couple of friends told me that I was too sober, and they were taking me out to get me drunk. I said fine, but I stipulate the drink.

I never touched the stuff again since that day, which, in its principle aim was a complete success, but which, in its after-effects, was pretty terrible.

But... Guys... a few words of history from you all please!

I’ve been reading and cotributing a bit to thE BIG POPPA tweaking thread. As such, I’m afraid to say too much. Here’s a few things you might not know (or care) about me:
    1) in my 20’s, I spent more time in jail than most folks.
    2) in my late 20’s and early 30’s I was the maitre d’ of a Michelin stared restaurant.
    3) in my mid 30’s I went back to school and finished a mechanical engineering degree. I worked for Boeing on the international space station. Boeing bought me an MBA from a relatively prestigious school. (Ok, Boeing paid, but I did do the work....)
    4) in my mid 40’s I finally married the most amazing woman in the world (going on 15 years).
    5) I have a 13 year old daughter with Down Syndrome. She is an amazing person. I am in awe of her.
    6) I never outgrew potty humor.
    7) All booze, beer, wine and recreational euphoriant stories will only be told over booze, beer or wine, in person.

My dad built a Heathkit integrated amp in the 60’s and was into jazz. I grew up around it, and it stuck. I have less than 0 musical skill or talent. No rhythm, no soul, can’t carry a tune in a bucket. I love listening to music in spite of my complete lack of musical talent.

I’d graduated down to a radio, TV and a decent car stereo. Then Apple introduced the iPod. I’ve been working my way back up since. I love good music reproduction, and I love live music. Concerts are a family activity, and run the gamut from Adam Ant to YoYo Ma. I’m also a bit of a gear slut, though I am settling down a bit with my rig becoming much more stable over the last couple of years.

Before I got my driver’s license (1972) I used to ride my bike to an audio store nearby. The guy used to let me listen to all the headphones. My favorites were the Koss Pro 4AA. I saved up money and on my 16th birthday drove over and bought them. Listened to them out of a all-in-one turntable amp set-up. I saved money for a couple of years and moved up to a Marantz 2220B receiver and Technics turntable. Then moved away from headphones to ESS speakers, towers. Fast forward to the 80’s and tried some Grado SR-60’s then in the 90’s IEM’s Etymotics. Bought my first dedicated head amp from Tyll. Bought a pair of LCD-2r2’s. Had a pair of black driver HD650’s. Found Changstar by accident when searching for measurements. Joined. Went to a large Changstar meet in the Bay Area. There I met Marv, Anax, @zerodeefex, Craig from EC, @shipsupt and others in the old Guard. Pretty sure I met @aamefford there too. It was a really great day. Got to listen to a ton of great gear. HD800’s, Fostex phones, DNA amps and of course Eddie Current. When I got home started posting more often. I’ll skip the part about the shoutbox at 2 A.M. The rest is history.

So far as headphones are concerned I slowed down quite a bit being burned so many times after buying all the models with rave reviews on headfi since 2004. I have probably owned over a hundred cans with only a few that I have acquired more than once like the hd580 and hd600. If I were still living in the US, I wouldn't have wasted all that money on crap and would have listened to all of them before buying.

Hah! Just enough time on earth to have a variety of experiences. Some due to opportunities I was fortunate to take advantage of. Some due to stupidity in actions. Most due to a little of both. I remember meeting you. I haven’t been to a meet in a while. I need to make it a priority again.

Not a Friend but I discovered The Absolute Sound magazine in college (which was a revelation at the time.) This was in the early years of HP. Became friends with the owner of a local high end store (who knew a buyer when he met one:) who would let me take anything home to try. I lost my vinyl on a cross country move when the movers accidentally crushed my record collection. Rather than rebuilding the vinyl I switched to CDs but have never really been happy with digital until 2010 or so. Now that I have retired I have downsized to head fi only and am still surprised how far digital has come. Took a damn long time though to become really on a par with vinyl. No urge to get back into vinyl or speakers just working on getting most realistic playback to my ears streaming with phones.

Tragic! What a horrible thing to happen. I have LPs from my teens still. They are utterly unplayable, but still I could not part with them. The later stuff, as I have neither the energy nor the earsight to digitise any longer (I'd have to get an ADI-2 PRO!) is neglected, but still with me.
