With an OOP amp like this, I would certainly value the mods over tubes with variable uncertain lifespan

It says analog active crossover and that he built it at amp camp, so I'm guessing some variation of the pass/first watt active crossover, forgot to put that in my original post, but definitely a very tempting part of the deal.

The crossover is also an EQ for the full range and the bass woofer. So Active Crossover + EQ for the project.
Also- if you buy the speakers, reverse the polarity of either the top or bottom drivers to avoid phase issues.

I'm an unabashed HP1000 groupie but these prices are insane. Maybe it's having a revival, but these have been going for well under $2k the last 5-6 years.

 

Rarely if never do these go up for sale. One of the amps I lusted over in my headphone journey.
