It seems as if the Red supported uPnP/AV as well as OpenHome. The latter is an extension of uPnP/AV and supports uploading entire playlists to the renderer device (the Red).

With uPnP/AV, the renderer can only be told to play one song, and possibly, if it supports that, the next song that should follow. It will play these 1-2 songs, and if it isn’t told what to play next afterwards, it will stop. That means that if you want to listen to an entire album, the controller (in this case BubbleUPNP on your smartphone) has to run all the time, always check how far the renderer has played already, and provide the next song to play in time.

With OpenHome, however, BubbleUPNP will just send the entire playlist (track list) for the album over to the Red. Afterwards, you could switch off your phone and the Red would still play to the end of the album. (At least if the music files are streamed from another server in the network or from a streaming service, not from the smartphone itself.)

BubbleUPNP shows the uPnP/AV as well as the OpenHome “version” of the Red.

If someone could tell me when the new firmware comes out that'd be great. Please and thank you!

Is there no way to use UPNP/DLNA and Airplay with the RED? the settings seem to only allow for one kind of connection. But I want to stream movies and Bandcamp music discovery and stuff to the RED as well as super duper serious DLNA listening.

Otherwise I guess I have to keep a Pi2AES hooked up as well just for Airplay.

I don't have a Red to check, but according to the Kitsune website, all services can be active simultaneously on RedOS (page 4 on https://www.kitsunehifi.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/HOLO_RED_Manual_20221221.pdf). It's also possible to install Ropieee on the Red. I know from past experience that Ropieee supports multiple input protocols. But I'd suggest that you try first to follow the manual to configure RedOS to respond to multiple protocols.

Thanks for suggesting this. But it is a bit weird, when I first setup the RED it only allowed me to choose one option, for example, if I selected Tidal Connect, it automatically unselected UPNP. So I went with UPNP only. But I just went back into the settings and it let me choose as many as I wanted. So I got airplay working, which is handy.

If any of you encounter this, maybe just try again later, I don't know, very weird...

I didn't care for the Sigma11 LPS with the Pi2 Design stuff. Thought that the Sigma 11 was kind of boring and uninvolving. A used Sola SLS-24-012 LPS from ebay for $30 provided more balls and organic-ness. Heck I even preferred Noise Nuke with the cheap switcher to the Sigma 11.

My RED isn’t supporting gapless playback and I tried turning on home sharing in the renderer settings to see what would happen. But it seemed to completely break the RED.

it no longer shows up in bubbleupnp even after turning off home sharing

    And red.local won’t load anymore.

turning off the RED and turning it back on didn’t fix it either.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

And also get the RED to support gapless playback? It is turned on in the bubbleupnp renderer settings.

I have been sitting on Red OS v 2023.04.15 since, well that date. I have never seen any update notification until today. I did a running update which was 2024.02.16 first then 2024.03.27. With this update only one input source can be selected now as @rhythmdevils has seen. Up until this new update I was able to select multiple inputs and keep them active. For example, I always had UPnP, Roon, and HQPlayer NAA active. It is confirmed by the release notes that now only 1 input source can be selected at a time. There has been a major change to the UI as well including the addition of a changelog and embedded PDF manual.

    Change Log
    2024.03.27
    - Updated to add User Guide in English and Chinese.

Just giving a little shout out to the Red. Source matters and Red freaking kills it.

I bought another Shanling ET3 and felt it was letting me down with some hardness in the higher frequencies. On a whim I plugged the USB out from the ET3 to the Red and it automatically went to digital conversion mode when the et3 was on. Sounds freaking fantastic. No complaints. Also automatically returns to streamer mode when the ET3 turns off. Incredibly seemless and both CD and streamer sound perfect.

Incredibly pleased and happy with this setup. Living in a niche within a niche I never would have expected this stuff to work together so well.

If folks are interested I can start a thread in the DIY forum on a DIY streamer (RPi free) that i have been using for the last 3 months. I'm unable to listen to holo Red(sounds very analytical now) anymore.

For some reason could not upload the image in the message above. I'm also planning to invest more in the power supply section. I'll also add a USB input to it.
And later attach a ESS Dac for comparison with my current dac.

Anyone have insight as to why I no longer see Native DSD output as an option? I used to be able to do Native. Since the latest software update I am only getting
    Code:
    PCM - DoP - DCS
WTF is DCS? I am seeing this via Roon streaming and on two separate DACs, Holo Spring 3 via I2S and Eversolo DAC-Z8 via USB.

Concerning the Holo Red 2024.02.16 firmware update, I'm hearing significantly better sound quality with my system in terms of sound staging, bass dynamics, treble smoothness (while at the same time not losing definition), and vocal naturalness. Oddly enough, the biggest difference to me is how much better some of the poorly recorded 80's rock music sounds. Examples of this are the currently streaming Sade remastered recordings from her "Ultimate Collection." Prior to updating my firmware, many of the tracks seemed to my ears to be quite harsh and even overloaded in the treble octaves and very difficult to listen to. I venture to guess that the digital remastering and processing were done poorly. Somehow Holo Audio has been able to mitigate these shortcomings. Sade's tracks are now much more listenable and closer to what I remember from my LP days. Even Sade's original, non-remastered streaming tracks sound better to me than the "remastered" tracks.

Just updated from my 2023 firmware to the latest 2024.03.27 and, indeed, the sound seems to have improved quite a bit on most technical aspects. Without doing any critical listening, I can tell that instruments are now better separated and it's easier to follow them individually all the way through, even when things get busy. Hopefully this doesn't get fatiguing after a while. We shall see!

Sorry, not intentional. I didn't know that font changes seem to be a sticky settings. Also don't know why I didn't notice.
