Just clicked order on my first HP amp (b-stock Vali 2). Will go with the used Modi Multibit + HD650 picked up recently. I feel like Alice right now.

That's a great combination. My Vali 2 is on semi-permanent loan to my cousin in Detroit, but I miss it every now and then.

Alice eventually wakes up. Keep some spare tubes and you do not have to end the dream. The tube magic will continue.

Am I preferring Gungnir Multibit A2 over Yggdrasil A2??? Is there something wrong with me?

@zonto to your PM about smoothness in the treble, I don’t get that Yggdrasil A2 is smoother than GumBy2. For the stuff I listen to, G2 is warmer and fuller and seems a bit more forgiving on top than Y2, although in a different way Gumby1 did, which is just softer overall. I don’t know that it’s going to soften things on top the way you’re hoping. Y2 is more extended and transparent up top IMO.

To overall impressions, I’ll stick to my initial impressions: G2 is fuller and denser in tone, but also a bit more blunt/dry. Y2 is wetter but also leaner and slightly less forgiving. However if soundstage, layering, microplankton and atmosphere is high on your list of priorities, Y2 wins.

Hell, Gungnir Multibit really is rough when it hasn't been powered on long enough. ~24 hrs powered on and still sounds like an old hag just woken up.

Pavane and Yggdrasil 'A' are both grotty in the first few hours. I heard a Soekris board that was cold and didn't like that much either.

My Yggdrasil A was like this too. I remember my wife and I were watching the Friends series on Netflix at the time, and after we swapped in the Yggdrasil vs. the Oppo BDP-105 DAC we were using previously it was crazy how voices sounded. Distortion and clipping, almost like the microphone gain was up too high or something. Smoothed out a bit by the time we watched an episode the next evening.

Interesting article. They really can find stats to show anything these days. The biggest question I have is this:

Why the hell is this being covered on Wired.com!? ;-)
