I'm not a huge fan of the bass tone either but I know it's not uncommon in metal.

Can't agree (clipping/distortion all over the place) but it's a nitpick on an extremely engaging album.

Chocolate Chip Trip is a really fun track. Had me following the instruments from one side of my headphones to the other. Was not expecting this compared to the rest of the album.

Plugged my daily driver Ether C Flows into my refined Mainline to compare to my HD800. Not even close. HD800 win. Next HD800 in to dd WA-8.

Plugged old headphones directly into headphone jack on Mac Book Pro... there really is no going back. I'd rather listen to nothing. :)

After getting some inexpensive portable headphones that I finally like, I'm pretty happy with music straight from my phone.

I'd like to hear the LS50 again in a proper room. When I heard them at a local shop, I was unimpressed compared to Maggies, but the form factor sure is more appealing.

Is it strange to say I like the Schiit who releases a product before it is announced better than the Schitt that can't deliver on a promise?

I wonder what recordings people think the most transparent. Recordings where your speaker or headphone rig disappear completely. ?

Pink Floyd The Division Bell is one of my references for recording quality. Other than that I suppose bi-aural recordings produce the most natural sound, there are a few out there.

What comes immediately to mind is 'Can - Monster Movie' original German Liberty LP, Side 2 "Yoo Doo Right". Not only do the speakers disappear, the room disappears. The sound extends well beyond the room boundaries: left/right, up and depth. It was recorded live in the studio to a 2 track Revox A77 and edited to the final song (about 20 minutes) in 1969.

First speakers. KEF LS50 with Vidar and Saga set as Near Field, soundstage Wow! But lacks dynamics of Yggdrasil, Mainline, HD800. Suggestions?

LS50 felt especially limp dick in dynamics department, even compared to same sized monitors. To outdo HD800 slam you really need to get 12'' or bigger bass and some lively mid-tweeter action.

LS50's excel with many things, dynamics just arent one as others have alluded. I have a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 2's (similar size) that swing wider/hit harder. Or go BWC as suggested above :)

*edit: sorry, didnt see that this was over a year old. Probably solved this issue by now. Ha.

Ya. I find myself wonder about speakers... I guess the good thing is, that once I've recovered from heaphones.... I can rest assurerd the Yggdrasil can feed speakers, no new DAC will be required.

Perhaps. Though I run the Ether C Flow out of that rig normally and that closed back makes the soundstage of the HD6xxx seem flat. Also should be noted that MJ2 is amazing except in regards to imaging.. My reference for perfection is Yggdrasil + Mainline + HD800, btw. I am addicted to feeling like I'm not wearing heaphones.

The spatial stuff Yggdrasil pulled off freaked me out a bit too. I swear in some live jazz albums I could 'hear the room' with the individual instruments reflecting off the walls of the space around them. Or maybe i just did too much peyote as a kid. Yggdrasil + BW2 + HD600 is hypnotic...
