I could not forget the Goons! Spike Milligan was one of the Great Grand-daddies of surrealistic British humour.

Born in the early 1950s, protocol required me to be in bed by 6pm. Even when I became a High Court Judge! (see Python). But I was allowed to listen to the, ahem, wireless until quite late, and started enjoying BBC radio drama, as well as the comedies, when I was five or six.

When I was permitted to stay up with the parents and the TV, I frequently preferred the radio. My reason... the pictures were better!
