Some LPs really capture how much my musical tastes have changed over time... For example, Tears for Fears, 'Songs from the Big Chair'... Mar 24, 2024 at 7:17 PM

also appreciated McCarthy's "The Road" for how it poses the post-apocalyptic scenario of whether/how we'll trust each other, when the alternative is to devour one another. Seems like a fitting metaphor for pre-apocalyptic life as well.

...that sick feeling when you find out 2 months after the fact that one of your favorite musicians played a show near your neighborhood.

call me an audio-philistine but I think the HD650 pairs pretty well for my tastes with Lyr 3.

Jotunheim is admittedly my only other major reference point. Otherwise, amazing mids, smooth+detailed highs, and good enough (occasionally muddy) bass. Using Sylvania 6SN7GTB tube.

Gungnir Multibit + Lyr 3 (Russian 6N8S) + HD650 = Intoxicating. Dangerous too, haven't enjoyed my music this loud in a long time.

First time I've ever experienced treble this smooth yet energetic from a headamp. Really conducive to air guitar and also a testament to the HD650's tonality being amazing at louder volume. Rarely ever bumped it like this with my Jot. Even just tried to as I have them side by side. Treble on Jot beyond 11 o'clock is congested, grainy, and occasionally piercing vs. Lyr3.

I actually kind of botched my hearing a bit after my first couple of days with the Lyr 3. I was listening louder than I realized and suddenly everything sounded strange like it does after you've been to a loud concert. Be safe out there, folks!

Q: What's your take on why electrostats are not more popular? Or how 'bout, why are you not into them as much as dynamics, planars, etc?

It's quite easy to pick up an entire used Stax System for $300-$600 from Japan. SRM-212/252 or SRM-313 for SS, maybe SRM-T1 for tubes to drive the "Earspeakers", and a SR-202/207 or older Lambda of some kind.

I'm only a few years into this hobby, so would y'all say Stax's popularity has grown since they were bought by Edifier in 2011? As mentioned, Stax offers relatively affordable, quality gear, but it seems like their marketing and distro (outside of Japan) either just sucks or (for whatever reason) is actually averse to growth.

Well there is no lock on genius. No I would not spend 100k on speaker if he did that, and yes you can get lots of the performance in smaller speakers, but hey if the guy is happy....................that is all that matters. Let's move on.

I saw a bit of myself in both of those guys, so I sympathize. Just a good reminder to be aware of the addictive/obsessive tendencies of an otherwise rewarding, fun hobby - like all hobbies, really...

Also the most meaningful difference I could glean from this small snapshot of their lives was that one had a much more money than the other. In other words, the rich one could save more face thanks to the bigger house, former career. Meaning that if they were of equal means and status, they would probably be roommates in that 250sq ft apartment and maybe split the cost of that utility pole!

I've only watched the pilot and the second episode and I've already noticed quite a few people. Jimmy Smits, Ed O'neill, a very Svelte looking Bubba from Forrest Gump.
