Sometimes you forget how good your setup is until you listen to a song you liked somewhere else and realize it's terribly mastered.

Part of me kinda misses CDs. A bit wistful for my high school days, poring over the Berkshire Record Outlet catalog looking for good deals.

Got my Holo Spring lvl2 set up...it's still warming up, but it already sounds amazing. Maybe I should've looked into NOS DACs sooner...

Do you still have the Bifrost Multibit on hand? How's it compare? I'd be willing to wait for more considered impressions after everything's settled though :P

        Congrats on the new DAC!

I still have the Bifrost Multibit (thought it's older, so it's not the new v2 firmware everyone's talking about)...I'll definitely do some listening & compare the two, though I'd like to give the Spring a day or so to warm up before really judging it. (At least, that's what the previous owner recommended.)

Unless someone at Schiit was particularly kind when I had the Bifrost Multibit I bought used converted from 110V to 230V I'm rocking the older firmware as well. That you have the same is perfect, haha

I am tossing up Cyan vs RME ADI-2 DAC. Don't really have the space for anything bigger, unfortunately.

I actually started out with the same tossup until I found a good deal on a used Spring! Frankly, I don't have space for the Spring either, but finding a Spring L2 for the price of a Cyan made me start getting creative with my desk space.

Tempted by the MD x Focal Elex, but i'm not really sure it wouldn't just get neglected for the HD800 like all my other headphones.

It is not uncommon to read that people here prefer the HD6xx (modded). It is well worth $200 to find out, imo. At worst, you end up with two excellent headphones that sound quite different from each other.

Most people start with the 6xx and get the 800 in an attempt to upgrade- spend ages modding the 800 (which does improve it a great deal) before reverting to the 6xx anyway. It's all part of life's rich pageant, and it's nice to have the 800 around for the contrast.

Nope, bought it pre-modded, so I've never heard one stock. (And haven't heard the Utopia either, sadly.) It does sound great, though...amazingly spacious and detailed, definitely not fatiguing, and I couldn't pick up on the treble peak the stock one has, so I'm guessing the mod took care of that. You're probably more used to high-end cans than I am, but I'd definitely recommend.
