Looking at the options. Apparently acrylic glass is easy to polish but then I am better off putting on a SKX bezel with Seiko mineral glass that can actually take a beating. I think an SKX bezel with glass should fit just right. The dimensions match up...
My understanding is that the only watch for which one wouldn't necessarily prefer the sapphire is the Speedmaster Pro, in which case the hesalite is considered the must-have due to legacy/tradition/appearance.
Acrylic just has a different look, and can be easily restored with a little polish. It is also less susceptible to breaking due to impact. So it depends on what you're after. I agree most would probably want sapphire.
