Something isn't quite right... I feel some congestion. The notes are too dense at times...

Since I've used that identical setup, I'd venture that it's the stock tubes that may be causing some congestion. I'd recommend swapping them out, when possible. Moby is likely a factor, too, but it's a more expensive proposition to find a worthwhile replacement.

Mind you, upgrading the tubes on the Sonett can be pricey in its own right. Comes down to how much you want to spend on the rectifier.

Also, perhaps a tonality issue? Sonett does have a subtle bloom to its midrange presentation.

Agreed on the midrange comment, that's the significant warmfag factor of Sonett to me. I'm unlikely to upgrade the Modi Multibit unless I've got the budget and space and time for an Yggdrasil... Also tubes are a pain in the ass to get in Canuckland so I'm skipping that as well. I guess I should be very happy with this chain for a long time.

Maybe see what's available on thetubestore.com? IIRC, Don has sourced tubes from them. And they're located in Canadia. Otherwise, should the congestion remain irksome, you may be SOL. :(

Hate to tell you but the hd650 is the bottleneck. It's a real stuffy nose.

@Ryu I'm not surprised any one of them can be. Good transient response or proper smoothness, not both...

@Huxleigh there doesn't seem to be a lot of 5AR4 or 6H30 to roll within their selections. I guess my salvation lies in a future Yggdrasil...

You can always get 6H30-DR for USD 300++ :D
