I will always champion the ESP 950 as the best headphones no one thinks about. Sadly they are too unreliable to use as my only pair of headphones. Half the time they'd be at Koss getting repaired. : [

Also the $300 extra bucks would go to a Modi Multibit if I didn't already have a source, or---if I did have a source---I'd just save it for music.

If I'm being fully honest: andromeda on sale. I'd use them out of my phone.

Do you have $1000 to spend on an amp and headphones? Will you call it a day and sell all your other gear?

I hear this sort of stuff all the time, but rarely see people follow through.

No, I mean if I only had $1k to spend. It's one of those "if I knew back then what I know now" hypotheticals. Actually, my first hifi system *was* a Stax Lambda Classic set, and apart from getting a better source, I was pretty much content and could have stopped right then. However I continued to explore headphones knowing full well it was only cuz I wanted to collect them.

Actually, I did sell 95% of my gear when collecting this stuff got to be too much of a bummer. I found I wasn't listening to music as much, but obsessing about gear. The breaking point I think was buying a rare Moth amp that was wired for EU voltage, needed servicing, and weighed like half a ton in its massive wooden crates. It was a heavy albatross. The weight of it all was smothering me. I needed to breathe.
