I couldn't back to back them, but the Viento with the subbass switch on seemed like a higher end take on the Massdrop plus' idea: uerm with subbass. Not the same, but another swing at it.
I'm listening to it on "flat mode" and really enjoy it so far with foam tips. The vocal presentation on this is more to my tastes than on the Plus. Vocals on plus take more of a backset, while this is more upfront. The Viento has a lot less bass and less of a bump around 2k, which I assume attributes to this. But then again, the Plus is a "plus tuning," not reference in that regard.
The NT6 was very disappointing to me, after reading for years how it was more neutral than the UERM. Not only was that untrue, I hated the disconnect in the weight of the bass and the thinness of the treble.
I loved the Viento-R. I'm not sure which mode I tried (probably flat?) but it was one of the better reference tunings since it didn't sound thin or overly textured. When I go to Korea one day, I'll most likely pull the trigger.
One thing to note, looks like the polarity of the two pin is reversed on these from my other CIEMs on the two-pin connector. JH and UE have front pin as ground. These have rear pin as ground.
Didn't all the hype for the NT6 start with the Whiplash cable combo review? And then Pro came out and the fanboys collectively shat their pants cos it had more bass and treble but ultimately butchered the tuning.
