@BenjaminBore New versions of Firefox come with a h.264 codec from Cisco and the Widevine content decryption module from Google. I haven't had any issues decoding html5 media for years now, although you may have stronger opinions on software freedom than me.
I'd love to Update to FF 57. But the sheer amount of un-ported (missing API's), abandoned/inactively-updated, feature-locked/incompatible, unsupported or horribly ported-over WebE Addon "Replacements"—compared to my current & precious Legacy XPI Extensions; that all work perfectly fine right now—pisses me the eff off!
It's either abandon the FF ship for Chrome (screw that) or keep pulling the old tRusty carriage. :\
I'm sure @Thad E Ginathom, at least partially, supports my negative sentiment towards such crappy changes, (such as WebExt creation without any support to Devs, by Firefox, w/ helping in-giving proper API's, etc) just to emulate/copy-cat a Chrome experience, just cause it's so freaking popular, damn you Google, DAMN YOU! *Shakes fists*
@TwoEars Nope I'm just an old-school Firefox user, with a lot of irreplaceable (imho) Legacy XPI Addons, that I use daily, which never got ported over properly or at all, to the current WebExt scheme. :\
Oh & also cause I'm (at least feeling) old, but most importantly... really don't like major change. But don't we all?
@A1Gear, yes, I am very much in your negative FF boat. I'm using the ESR channel as long as it lasts. But that is going to be just a few months before the look and feel that has evolved with me for over fifteen years gets made impossible by Mozilla. No, I won't go anywhere near their new browser.
Currently on the list of things to do next are Pale Moon, which plans to remain at least looking decent, but will not support all the FF addins. and, discovered just a few days ago, Waterfox, which looks promisingly like the firefox we knew and loved.
@Thad E Ginathom
Is it ESR v52.5.0 (Nov 13th) right?
I'm on "FF v54.0.1 (64-bit) EME-Free" (all DRM removed from installer).
But ESR v52.5 still has all the latest Security/Bug Fixes though?
I, as well, need to start going through different FF forks.
Waterfox might be a decent alternative to Pale Moon, since it has better support for Legacy XPI's, esp. after the ESR channel gets dropped in support completely.
Just for the hell of it, I might actually try this (probably on a Thumb Drive, to be safe)... just to see how neutered & downgraded the Customization of few properly-ported WebE Addons actually is:
@TwoEars, oh heck, it sucks when a "this is wonderful" thread gets railroaded by haters. Sorry. @A1Gear, I want the classic layout and appearance. Classic Theme Restorer is not going to be rewritten or ported. And yes, ESR 52.5.
I guess we should leave TwoEars to enjoy his browser in peace <Blush>
Yeah, my bad as well, TwoEars!
I guess we were just simply expressing our (major) criticisms of a big popular Corp; but better to do so (imo), than having an "Everything is Wonderful" or "Can do no wrong!" attitude, like we, all too often, see on Head-Circlejerk-Fi, this days.
