Having just moved down here from Toronto, yeah, it's a very different place than Canada. Worse healthcare and politics... but the weather...

Take the time to go down to Big Sur from the Bay area on Hwy 1. It's cut off from going farther south due to massive mudslide, but is well worth the trip to experience the rugged coast line.

Also, like previously mentioned, go see the Red Wood forest further north, one of the most amazing things to see in the world, truly peaceful and breathtaking. Don't bother the hippy mafia in that neck of the woods, they can be rather ornery if you infringe on their pot plants if you wander off the beaten path.
