    You can use a less demanding i.e. higher input impedance component(s) downstream, including putting some kind of active preamp in front (which might also hurt SQ to some extent).

    Or, you could build/buy some kind of switch to disconnect the output you are not using, e.g. SYS works for RCA. Would be a PITA to do this twice, so something DIY might be better.

    Which DAC, and what do you have it connected to?

    Parasound dac1600, it's going into a vintage integrated amp and a hp amp via balanced. Have tried both headroom and ecp dsha1and even 2 int amps with same issues.

    Was emailing with ECP Doug and we determined it seems like the DAC has really high voltage out but is not producing enough current. I need to re-investigate maybe making pads/attenuators again, made some but divided too much voltage in the end. That switch would work but $100 worth for a DAC that is on a good day worth $400 :)
