I never stopped- Tidal is useful as a preview, or at work etc., and if I like it I pick up my own copy and FLAC away. That said, we've been here before, and Tidal squeaked through, so..
Where do you guys get your CD's? Ebay seems to have the versions of CD's that I want, but I worry about actual condition (I still want to rip them accurately). Any other sources that might be more consistent?
I usually just scour used CD stores and goodwills. The treasure hunt is part of the fun. :) However the very best place to get something very specific and make sure that it's the right version is probably discogs.com. I've bought from murfie.com, secondspin.com and Amazon.
Used CDs are where used vinyl was 20 years ago-dirt cheap. Garage sales, thrifts, even used record stores and ebay. Im glad I held on to mine even after ripping to FLAC, I'm having fun popping them in the player again.
When I lived in Chicago, I would go to Reckless Records all the time. I just went to a place that is mainly a used book store that has thousands of CDs in the back.
@fraggler If you rip using EAC or dbPoweramp you will rarely, and I mean that in the strictest sense, not end up with a bit perfect rip. I've ripped over a thousnd, and erring on the side of caution maybe 10 slowed EAC down noticeably, and I always ended up with a perfect FLAC rip.
Thanks for the update. Now I simply list the albums I cannot easily get in NL and buy the FLAC versions before it is too late. Basically everything Janelle Monae, Outkast and Sharon Jones...
