Ain't that the truth. I've spent way more on sandpaper and sundry DIY accessories than I'd like to admit.

Oh! U mean making things look nice. Yeap. It's a PITA. Got to ask folks what they think cuz I see all kinds of shit problems. Wife can yank me out of such a destructive situation.

@ultrabike - i have some SMD resistors and QFN chips that are *slightly* out of place and its bugging hell out of me. Or I have a resistor with a little bit more solder on one end then the other. They make full contact and measure like they are supposed to.

BUT I KNOW IT CAN BE BETTER!!

No problem. LOL! Might be able to listen to my shitty micro-monitor deal too. As far as solder I just messed up yesterday. I intended to solder the crossovers with normal solder. Instead I grabbed lead-free one by mistake. Meh. It is what it is.

You need a high temp iron too? I have some special one from my EE father in law that supposedly goes to 800F

LOL! I have two Wellers. One is a WTCPT. Both are broken (sort of disappointed at Weller). Got a $5 emergency one from Walmart and so far so good.

I'm scared of lead free. It looks like cold solder when it cools. And I'm not sure if things will last.

Yeah and the extra heat on components can't be good either.

The good news is that at least for crossovers, parts have a relatively high power dissipation tolerance. For more delicate stuff, proly best to stay away. Also, things look like shit when soldered with that crap.

It has to be shiny so you know it's good!

But yeah I can't imagine doing smd with that crap. I stick to through hole stuff since i only mess with tubes.
