Had an opportunity to lsiten to the La Voce S2 standard 1704 chip dac today. Fronted by a Hydra Z and power supply, I heard it on my friends big speaker system, Really nice sound especially when compared to the Rowland Aeris. It kept up nicely. And that was with only 25 minutes of warmup. You could hear it changing through the songs.

Not what I expected from a 1704 chip but then again, they do something a bit different and do not use the dac chip filter. Really promising dac that is not absurdly priced at $2700.

I've been really impressed with the sound so far. It's both spacious and warm. Instruments have a very "right" and lifelike sound. I'm going to hold off on a more elaborate description, however, because mine wasn't fully broken in before it developed some quirks. It's currently with the distributor, and a new unit is being sent my way next week. It's got a solid warranty though, so I'm not super bothered by it... Considering I stole it on Audiogon for $1650. I can update this post if y'all like after I get it back and spend some more time with it. Seems like a great sleeper DAC for those who want to try something a bit different. It's got R2R and all that shit, and there's a handful of different DAC chipsets that can be swapped in and out to fidget with the sound. Google for more info and cookies.
