An awful name. As overpriced as thing is I really do hope it is good. I was always intrigued by the K1000. Would be nice to have a more competent modern variant.

Anyone have experience driving K1000 with T-amps? I ordered a Topping TA10.2 Mk4 so I'll know in a week or so if it is to my taste or not ... just being curious ...

I believe the stereo amp in my DACmini PX is a Class D. Works well with the K1000 to me.

Yes, the power amp in the Dacmini PX is class D. I have one and it works well.

I've also used Topping amps with my HE-6 and enjoyed that more than the hyped Emotiva Mini-X.

What was bass extension like on the K1000?

I'm assuming it was pretty poor due to a lack of seal.

Bass is there but impact depends on positioning of the "headphones" to the ears. This is so fickle that you have to get it just right or the K1000 sounds off.

Despite that I still think this is a cool headphone. Crazy AKG designs have their charm...

So a prototype of MySphere 3.1 was for demo at the Vienna meet

I always wanted to own the K1000, the soundstage is widely praised. Since I am totally blown away by HD800S, feel like I will be impressed by this too.

Huh, that's actually a kinda cool aesthetic they've got going on... I'm curious how the comfort plays out.

Have you ever tried the K1000? People claim they are very comfortable, more comfortable than HD800 apparently, have never tried so dunno...I am guessing these will be "as comfortable" at least.

Okay... exactly which "people" said that K1000 is more comfortable than HD800? Did they actually try out both headphones on their head before making such a statement? The HD800 is indeed one of the most comfortable headphones I've tried, and I've tried a lot of headphones. Frankly, K1000 is one of the top 3 most uncomfortable headphones I've ever tried. I thought I would never let comfort issues get in the way of my quest for sonic nirvana, but the comfort issue of K1000 was so bad that it was nearly a dealbreaker for me had it not sounded very good.

The K1000 has two adjustable temple pads to improve their comfort.

So the Abyss must be one of the others. What's the third?

Yes, I'm aware. I tried all 3 positions and felt a difference but at the end of the day it was still too uncomfortable to wear for an extended period of time.

TakeT H2+. You may have thought Jecklin Float, but its latest version with elastic bands was surprisingly comfortable despite its ridiculous look. I haven't tried the older versions that looks more like a headphone stand than a headphone.

That makes sense, they don't look comfortable at all. The people I'm talking about are reddit/hf/random forum folks, but of course I trust first hand experience like yours more, reason I asked.

While we are on the topic, what other headphones are as comfortable as the hd800 with close enough soundstage? The HD650 are crushing my skull when I wear them for a long time.

Really? The HD650 is fairly comfortable to my head. I was going to say that HD6xx, HD800 and THxxx are among the most comfortable headphones to rest on my head. Not many headphones can come close to HD800 in terms of soundstage, less so in both soundstage AND comfort.

Funny you say that, those are the three headphones I own :D. I have even tried to bend the steel part of HD650 as suggested on forums, still the pressure is a bit too much. I have about 100 hours on them, bought brand new, so I guess they will loosen up a little bit..

These are the best headphones I have ever owned or tried! The resolution and tactile nature cannot be matched by any of the modern headphones including any of the sennheisers (Orpheus excepted) or the Stax's or Audeze etc!
