Get the angled ear pads. They are really effective. I prefer the stock ear pads but the angled ear pads make the headphone sound HD650 smooth. That is nice...

Got these from Massdrop ($120 iirc), as I needed a closed set of cans, and for the price I still think they are pretty decent. The FR is pretty neutral, and they are definitely easy to drive, even with a phone, although I use my x5/e12 far more as a portable music solution, but use my phone for spotify sometimes. Although I am by no means a basshead, these phones are actually capable of some pretty impressive sub-bass reproduction, if one can get a good seal. This is an important proviso, as I had a hell of a time doing so, because these are the biggest f'ing headphones I have ever had on my head.

I am kind of a pinhead (no snickering in the back there) for my size, ( I wear a size 7 3/8 hat, fwiw) but I had to stuff about double the stock amount of memory foam in the pads and bend the headband so much it comes to a point on the top to get enough clamp to get a good seal, (see pic). Having done that, they are pretty comfy. Their size and shape does definitely give you a Princess Leia look though. I have since purchased a set of NAD Viso hp50s, the sound of which I prefer (more realistic treble timbre, though without the sub-bass capability) but which are not anywhere near as comfortable for longer listening sessions. I don't use them for music at home much anymore because I have hd600s and hd6xxs, which are both considerably better, though I think the Magni3 synergizes well with the akgs, so lately they've gotten more headtime. I mostly use them for movies/tv, at which they are quite good to my ears. I tried to sell them on headfi, and the best offer I got was like $50 shipped, and for the $35 or so it would've put in my pocket, I'd rather keep them. Glad I did now. Overall, I think they are underrated for the price, and probably my favorite akgs of what I have heard. Hope someone finds this useful.

I bought these by the way and they are great. I went to a meet the other day and the closest to its overall sound sig balance would be the focal utopia. Bassier than hd800s/dekoni, or hd600 that's for sure. Mids are very good for the price. I am loving them.
