Talking about western electric, yesterday I have heard that they want to restart production of 300B and this amp:

Let's see whether they will really restart or not, IIRC they have been promising this since around 2013

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder on this one, but I know what it meant and it does it for me.

How nice to see a NAD. Reliably good. No silly money. And good-looking too!

Saw this amp by Speciman Audio while I was looking at their Fostex horns

Looks nice but at $5000 I expect something better then Hammond transformers.

I'd go for the look of Nagra pro stuff any day: very sexy. Not keen on them making an audiophile line out of it.

Mock the new stuff all you want. But stuff like this was the real deal. (Might be a touch biased, I live a 2 1/2 hour drive from Binghamton, NY)

    What gets me about wood...

I strongly suspect that, back in that day, it was just an economical substance to build a cabinet from. Especially in short runs. For good looks, a competent DIY woodworker could probably made a much nicer cabinet out of wood than any metal.

So, vintage wood, nice... but wood used to make electronics look sexy actually turns me off. Like weird underwear...

    Is Mcintosh from Binghamton?
Might explain why there seems to be a decent amount of McINtosh gear on craigslist. I also saw a weird piece of McInotsh tube based medical equipment at a garage sale. Not really sure what it was.

Yeah, between being that close to the home office and Audio Classics, we would tend to see more nice looking stuff listed for sale...

Here's a question which is utterly off-topic to this thread, because they undoubtedly sexy, but did VU meters on home amps ever serve any useful purpose?
