I would have the 4 strands of wire going into the connector "braided" like any other 4 conductor cable at the strain relief. That should easily fit.

The size of the actual wire isn't too big, so that will definitely fit.... hmmmm but how to cover the transition from shielded & sleeved cable to just four pure wires so it looks like a half decent wiring job would be challenging...

Maybe a Y split or beads? But then I need to find a Y split that fits 5mm dia cables

Honestly, I think the shotgun cable is stupid. Ideally you can rebraid it and Y split at chest level but I know that's a lot of work.

Have a Y right before the strain relief held together with heatshrink will be the least amount of work and look semi decent.

can't fault you for thinking that, the current set up is a bit cumbersome and not exactly practical for daily use as well... but that's a stupid mistake made 6 years ago, now I have to work with it instead of rebuilding a new one due to budget concern.

But yes, I think using a Y split then transition to the 4 xlr is most likely what I will be doing...

I have a Keysight E3617A linear power supply on the way for the Garage1217 Project Horizon/Sunrise (very nice bench supply, similar to what @atomicbob uses).

I figured I should put together a nice looking cable to connect them. Pomona cable and banana connectors. Xenocam DC adapters (might replace with soldered connections later on).

I liked the PRT (phase reversal trick) enough to just change my HD650 cable to do it by default. I'll use these two adapters to reverse phase back to normal if I need to.

Has anyone tried pure silver RCA interconnects? I'm thinking of using these instructions for a DIY set.

    http://diyaudioprojects.com/Power/diySilver/

I'm curious about any actual audible benefits, and I'm also a little worried about flexibility. Also, does the drain in this cable (which is also the third wire in the braid) really need to be silver, or can it be copper?

Yes, a number of times: Audio Magic, some fancy priced ones out of the midwest"Jaden Signatures" (best of the bunch), some diy from Homegrown Audio, all silvery in sound (haha) with some better than others. Something they do to the upper mids, lower treble just bothers me. I have always preferred copper for my ears.

And what did I learn from all the thousands I spent over the years. Usually a good copper wire, decent dielectric, very good shield, and coax design will get you very good results. I feel the last 20-30% of greatness comes from the connectors.

And a coax design gives you the best numbers for a single ended cable, not sure if it is inductance or capacitance or both, but it bears out in my listening. YMMV

    Thanks @bixby

Have you had any experience with Van Damme, Mogami, or Belden coax? Seems like the choices are:
    • Mogami w2965 (dual coax)
    • Mogami W2964 (single coax)
    • Belden 1505A RG59/20 (or 1505F for flexibility)
    • Belden 1694A RG6
    • Van Damme Standard 75 Ohm Plasma Grade
Van Damme Pro Grade Classic XKE Pro-patch cable has also been recommended (Bare silver plated ultra pure oxygen free copper wire)

    Any others to consider?

Did you mean me? I'm Bixby but Jexby is also in Colorado.

I have some experience with Mogami in premade and DIY, a bit too soft and warm. Belden RG stuff is not so hot, nor is the old recipes form John Risch for cross connected or single RG based ics.

My best sounding ICs that do not cost a fortune use VH Audio Pulsar (silver plated shield, copper center solid core, but not silver sounding) wire and a very decent sounding cable is Canare GS-6, commonly used to make patch cords for pro use, and priced low.

Here is another silver wire cable that has lots of followers: https://www.venhaus1.com/diysilverinterconnects.html

Silver plate over copper is usually worse sounding than silver for some reason.

An never use a ferrite on an analog ic, bad!

    @AllanMarcus

    fwiw

I did design a Senn 650 cable out of Belden 1800F which sounded really nice and it is not expensive. Recently made an adapter cable for 3.5mm male to female rcas with same. Have not heard it yet. Although it is not coax. You can get some Blue Jeans raw cable and connectors at rawcable.com.

I believe BJ uses Belden 1505F or Belden 1694A. At least that's what they say on their site.

I'm bidding on a lot of BJ cables, and if I get them, I use a few, and sell the rest at cost here.

    re: https://www.venhaus1.com/diysilverinterconnects.html
I saw that site, but that's way more than I want to spend. The problem is the need to buy a 25' roll of silver.

FYI, the Canare GS-6 sounds a bit better than the BJ LC-1

    And not too pricey: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canare-GS6-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

Good luck with whatever you decide. It's all just different flavors, haha.

I like Chocolate Mint. Chocolate is OK, but all others suck. :)

I went ahead a got the BJ cables. I got a great price. After I pick a few out to keep, I'll sell the rest here and HF. Price was too good to pass up.

We gonna see you at RMAF this year?

Probably, after 12 years or so on and the last two off, I think it is time to return.

So not entirely related to cables, but does anyone know where I can source pentaconn sockets? Perferably chassis mount.

Oh boy... Sony going for some crazy rare connector again...

Searched around and could not find TRRRS sockets that have a pin diameter 4.4 mm. Found several 5 contact sockets, but in 3.5mm sizing. Sorry.

At least HiFiMan LHLabs etc use the 3.5mm TRRS.
