The Norwegian side of me wants to put on a heavy, patterned sweater and point out how the cost of living in most of the US is so low, while not mentioning the sovereign oil wealth of the country, while the Scotch side of me can't believe you'd pay that much for anything.

The Irish side of me wants to just sit down and have good craic about DACs, while the Russian side wants to rig all the reviews of the Mojo to improve the resale value while annexing your headphones.

The Vulcan side of me is indifferent to the Mojo, and would like to find a DAC with multitronic circuits...a whole new approach....um...wait. That didn't work out so well. The human half will just stick with duotronics. Anyone seen one on Alibaba?[IMG]

I prefer to just jump straight to Isolinear circuitry, and avoid mistakes like destroying the USS Excalibur...

LOL you guys are amazing, none of that hype over a mediocre product, explains why I like sbaf so much more that some other forums. But in all honesty, if i just want a elegant desktop solution without spending too much money. I already have a massdrop Centrance dacport slim and fiio e17k, but i was looking at a extremely good deal for non fazor lcd-2 at about $430 ish, so i was looking for a decent and elegant desktop amp...

Is the aune x7s paired with the centrance as dac better than the mojo for driving lcd 2?

But honestly the marbles on the mojo make me want to buy them...

It has been documented quite extensively (e.g. see @Torq's posts, like the one below) that Mojo doesn't work very well as a desktop solution, not least because of its charging idiosyncrasies. Plus there is USB noise and susceptibility to phone interference.

Not sure if you have a particular preference for the LCD2, but in these corners the HD600/HD650 are often recommended as inexpensive, high-quality products. The other thing that you should consider is that headphones are often best considered together with suitable (for them) amplification. This might be a good question for the Advice Threads.

Last, I would point you to @atomicbob's System Synergy, where he presents a number of inexpensive desktop systems that rock (including Modi Multibit + Vali 2 + HD650):

Holy moly, just added a Vorzuge Pure II+ to my Mojo... Immediate impressions are excellent. More dynamic, more bass slam, more analog sounding (yes, you can laugh)... Definitely new toy bias going on, but label me impressed for now.

EDIT: forgot to mention, darker background with no audible hiss. From the Mojo I could always here a very faint hiss, but not so with the Vorzuge.

I felt the opposite when I had both of those components. While the Pure II certainly is blacker in background (one of the best portables for no hiss), I thought it changed the overall Mojo character too much: the Pure II separated everything from right to left too much; Mojo lost what makes its special IMO, its center image and full midrange.

Interesting, I do agree the sound is significantly altered. But to me the Pure brings out more low mids, particularly noticeable in vocals. I also don't hear the artificial separation you mention.

Did you do any experimenting with different gain settings?

I've been experimenting more and found that it highly depends on how "hot" the signal is that you feed the Vorzuge. The standard 3V (9.5dBV) line-out of the Mojo is unusually high which results in needing to use very low gain on the amp (less than 7-8 o'clock). The sound I get is dynamic but spatially kind of flat and wide. Lowering the Mojo output to a more common 0dBV means you can play the amp with higher gain (more like 9-10 o'clock depending on how sensitive your earphones are). With this setting the spatial image of the Mojo is largely maintained but the low mid warmth of the amp still shines through. Quite nice indeed.

My (not very educated) guess is that for the low gain settings the amp is operating sub-optimally, perhaps even soft clipping, but I can't hear any obvious distortion.

I've owned 2 different Pure II and had another on loaner. I don't think any were the + version. The wide separation from left to right was something I noticed with all 3 units from any source. I did play around with the output levels of the Mojo I don't recall the effects into an amp, Pure II or otherwise. I also used the Pure II with a Tera Player, AK240 and a few other daps.

It's been a while since I last read Nathan's take on the Pure II but I remember agreeing with it at the time: http://ohm-image.net/opinion/audiophile/sound-quality-review-vorzge-vorzamp-pure-ii
When it came to using the amp with other sources and iems, I ended up prefering the amp only version of the Cypher Labs Picollo. This amp also has a strong center image focus. But both were excellent imo, just a mater of preference.
