Haha no I haven't . I may have a dabble when I eventually upgrade my TT. I fear mono cartridges might be another money sink though!

 

How does that pressing sound, @insidious meme?

 

Sounds great to my ears. But I'm not one of those peeps who gives a lot of detailed reviews. Nor have I heard any of the other pressings in the past to compare it.

 

Open Secrets is my favorite track on that album

 

A friend has two boxes of classical 78's that she's giving away. Anyone want any? Can provide a list of titles if anyone is interested.

Excellent live recording, and my copy is flat and dead quiet. Great up-tempo version of 'So What'. At $15.50 a real bargain.

Moving in a different direction...



This is the Hendrix 8 LP 'Purple Velvet' box set, chock full of 'previously unreleased' outtakes, live cuts, and no doubt "rareities". I bought this new in 2000, at the time it was supposed to be a limited run (5000?) but I see that a reissue is available, though without the purple flocking. So I'm sure it doesn't sound anywhere near as good. The Hendrix heirs, what are ya' gonna do? They likes making money off of Jimi! (-:

At any rate, the track selection is diverse and interesting, with only a few song duplications. Sonics are also good, vocals and guitar very forward but that's no surprise, and good soundstage. Occasionally over-bright, but not often enough for concern. The DRDB shows the CD box set being really compressed, but I'm guessing the vinyl version is a bit better in that regard. I'm pretty sensitive to brickwalling and it's wholly acceptable to my ears FWIW. All 8 of my records are flat and quiet. In short, a fun listen, and plenty of it.

 

Country Blues is my favorite track from that box set. Really great jam.

 

Spinning some Led Zeppelin II tonight. Such a good album...

 

I never get tired of early LZ.
