I like Soranik's lineup a lot. Consistently good and, while inspired by FitEar, have a certain charm to their signature that works well with vocals.

To add on to my previous post, some choice comparisons to test out my new compensation curve:

    Andromeda: against Ken Ball's
    [IMG][IMG]

    Vega: against Ken Ball's
    [IMG][IMG]

    Jupiter: against Ken Ball's
    [IMG][IMG]

    Prophile-8: against headflux
    [IMG][IMG]

I think I'm rather happy with what I got now. Perhaps a little insensitivity between 8K and 10K but doesn't seem like it can be solved with compensation.

Thanks for the measurements! How would you compare the ProPhile 8 with the Jomo Samba?

This is awesome, thanks. Out of all of these monitors so far, which do you objectively hear as closest to neutral/reference?

The Samba is more lively while the Prophile 8 is closer to a reference tonality, though not to the extent of the ER4 for instance. Both have their place and quite honestly they are on par with one another.

It's a little hard to say. There's the Jomo 6R and Etymotic ER4XR (which I felt sounded more "right" than the SR), and technically the UE18+ and Prophile-8 can also be consider as very solid neutral references. All have certain strengths; the ER4XR is technically the most accurate while the UE18+ has the best tone and timbre, with the 6R and Prophile-8 slotting in between the two.

I selected some of the best-behaved gears and equalize them at 1kHz. Graphs are uncompensated.

Interesting notes (100% objective based on FR graph):
    1. Samba is basically slightly brighter version of Andro.
    2. PP8 tops UERR.
    3. A12 value is poor.
    4. Value wise, Andro/PP8 is the winner (slightly emphasized bass vs. flat bass).

Andromeda measurements will change based on OI though thanks to it's swingin' and bangin' impedance curves. That's only valid through whatever iDevice @La Cenric is using.

I'm using the dongle with less than 0.5 OI so my subjective impressions should lean toward the bassier side. Not sure about the OI of the Dayton's headphone-out jack but that would affect measurements for sure.

Nicely done! A little messy for now but should clean up real nicely with less data points. How did you do this, by the way? Would be useful for me to do it by myself on request as well.

Photoshop or GIMP allows selection by colour, so pick only the curve, align at 1kHz, then type the legend using the colour of the graph selected by colour picker tool. I can make a quick series of images when I'm home.

(Surprised at how well the TG!334 and Andro match in the LF. 334 sounds phatter and slower IME.)

I used paint bucket tool to color the graphs. It's super easy. After pasting a line, don't deselect. Choose paint bucket tool, choose color from lower left "squares", then click on the graph.

EDIT: why do you think Ety ER4XR as the most accurately neutral?

Note weight and tonality are consistent throughout from bass to treble. Which in turn makes it precise and neutral, but also heading into the "uncanny valley" of things.

Something like the Prophile-8 or the Andromeda, where the texture and speed of the bass slightly differs from the mids and subsequently the treble makes things sound more realistic and natural IMO.

This is an interesting thread. I think I saw it on Head-Fi before. But I quickly noticed that the treble measurement is not very accurate. Everything above 1 kHz seems to tilt downward and not all the peaks are at the correct position. It gives a broad idea however.

I do think that the scale of the y-axis is not chosen wisely. 6 dB difference is squished very tightly together although it should make a huge audible difference. In this presentation, almost all monitors look flat. Steps in 3dB would be easier to read.

I've addressed this issue a few times with compensation. Below is an example.

Step scales cannot be changed due to the limitations of the app, but I totally understand your concerns. Been a complaint that I've been hearing quite a bit.

Just had a short trip to Jaben's Melbourne branch. Not a very wide selection, but they have a certain hard-to-find brand...

As usual, raw on the left and compensated on the right:

    Sensaphonics 2MAX
    [IMG][IMG]

    Sensaphonics 2X-S
    [IMG][IMG]

    Sensaphonics 3MAX
    [IMG][IMG]
Sub-bass bump due to heavy microphonics, please ignore

    Subjective impressions:
    • 3MAX was rather congested in staging, a little messy and extremely backgrounded treble, sometimes resulting in non-existent hi-hats. While highly recommended five years ago, it has definitely aged badly over the generations.
    • 2MAX was the best out of the three, but that's not really saying a lot. I can name a few dual drivers that can outperform it at half the price.
    • 2X-S was painful to listen to. Strident, harsh and extremely fatiguing. Quite a bit of funk going on in the treble as well.

Fresh new measurements in from Addicted to Audio in Kew. Some new exotics that I'm pretty certain most people haven't seen in person, much less tried.

As usual, raw on the left and compensated on the right:

    Westone ES50

Notes: Ignore the sub-bass bump on the ES50 graphs (and to a certain extent, ES30) as it is an artifact caused by excessive microphonics.

Not a lot of subjective impressions this round. None of them really excited or impressed me for their asking prices, to say the least. The ES60 does sound very good, but it's performing at what I'd consider the bare minimum within its price bracket (which in this case is the $1500 range).

Other FAD products were available but I decided to go with one of each one of their product "lines" due to having prior engagements. If anyone wants any specific graphs I can get them the next time I drop by the store.

I took a leap on W900, in part due to your measurements and impressions. AAW nailed the tuning on these. The DD is relatively restrained (compared to W500) but it adds this palpable quality to the low end. The rest of the spectrum is perfect for me (flat and extended) and they have usurped Andromeda, although at retail they would cost twice as much... :p

Oh wow that's a pretty big leap  I'm still amazed by the W900's soundstage even till today. Sounds just as wide as one of those semi-open systems like earbuds, ADEL or FAD horn-designs but paired with the isolation only a fully-sealed IEM can give.

The soundstage and imaging is pretty astounding. From someone who finds HD800 too wide/diffuse W900 gets it just about right.

I had an opportunity to order at a pretty significant discount. The idea was to deathmatch them with Andromeda and sell them on at little/no loss when Andro stomped all over them. It didn't work out that way ;)

Received my UERM reshelled by AAW from @jmcmasterj and a Jomo Flamenco loaner demo, as well as heading down to Jaben for measuring once again. Raw on the left, compensated on the right:
